Hi
Im 18 in about three weeks and I really want a phone. My parents said they would get me one if I found one I liked. The only problem is choosing. I want one which is under £100, is colour and has some funky polyphonic ringtones. It has to be Pay as you go too. Any suggestions?

Selected Carphone Warehouses are selling returned/rebuilt Nokia 7600's for £99 - another fiver to get it unlocked - It'll work fine on any 2G networks (And 3 too). You've got the great NOKIA compatability joy (re; ringtones, etc) and it's a really well specced handset, what with Bluetooth & the video recording.

No other priced handset can offer the same features.

But, if you want something 'Out of the Box', the the Philips 535 has a camera, nice screen res, is really quite small and is £99.99 on O2.

the sagem my-v65 is THE best budget phone.

its around £90 on vodafone pay as you talk and has an excellent high res camera (640x480) and supports midi and wav ringtones, you can add them via infrared.

Its an amazing phone.

My Alcatel 735 is reasonable (deal: £89) usually £120 with Virgin P-A-Y-G and you have the reliability and joy!! of Richard Branson running the company that your phone is with!

I've yet to see any phones with 1 megapixel resolution. I think on phones, it's perfectly valid to call 640x480 hi-res.

As for my recommendation, if you're prepared to put up with an 'idiosyncratic' network, 3 offer the Motorola A835 with two 640x480 cameras, Bluetooth, Java and infrared for £74.99.

Sharp GX-30 is a megapixel phone, but it is around £300-£400 on PAYG!

But I have the Moto A835 and I'd recommend that if you think you'd spend £25 per month on Threepay - otherwise, best sticking to a 2G network

(although, you could get the £74.99 A835 unlocked, but sorting the software out would be a bit of a pain)

the A835 is a decent phone but the camera is a bit dodgy, also more mega pix phones will be hitting the shops in June, but they only one in the uk is the GX30 as said above, tbh 1mega pix is high res and no vga camera can be caleld high res. (IMO)

im a little confused, ur 18 in about 3 weeks, this be ur first phone???

If not, and you spend more than about £10 a month on calls / txts / mms, then you may be better off considering a contract.

Most providers offer a low price (£12.50-£15) contract, and you often get a heavily discounted or free phone with it. Just the cost of a £100 handset could pay 8 months line rental, which includes the cost of some calls and may include texts depending on your tarrif and operator.
