My over halfs MP3 player has to be turned up a lot to hear the tracks and sometimes full volume is not loud enough. I have tried different headphones but no luck, although haven't tried my sony ones.

our we doing something wrong when syncing it or is it the player?

What player is it... I had a Philips that I got rip of pretty quickly as it had a volume limiter that you couldn't disable, on an aeroplane you couldnt hear it at all.

If it's a cheaper player, like the USB stick ones, the sound volume, from my experience, has never been too high. However the better, more expensive MP3 players from say Apple or Creative offer very good sound volumes.
