I've had my Foxsat HDR for five days. Yesterday, the receiver turned itself off whilst I was watching a programme and recording two others. My first thought was it can't run three different programmes at the same time. However, this evening, whilst watching a programme and no recordings set up, the receiver turned itself off again at exactly the same time, 17.02.

There are no timers set and I can't find any reference in the manual.

Can anyone suggest what is going on (or off )........ please

you need to disable the auto standby. 'menu' > 'settings' > 'other'.

Why would this cause the problem?

" When Automatic Standby is set to Enable the product automatically switches to standby mode after a period of inactivity............"

As I was watching a programme it wasn't inactive....was it?

As it happens it was set to Enable and I have reset it to Disable... roll on 17.02 tomorrow.

Edit: What designates "period" and "inactivity"

I would guess the time from the last command on the remote or box control. If you leave it on the same channel for hours without doing anything, it will be considered as a period of inactivity.

I had this problem after a firmware update. It was the same symptom you describe, the box powering off at the same time each day. For some unknown reason a power off time had been set in the menu and clearing this solved the problem. I believe it is page 41 in the manual

So if I watch the same channels continuously my Foxsat will turn off as inactive? Methinks not.

Oh yes it does. It assumes you have fallen asleep so it does too, I kid you not. As tintin100 says it's the lack of input from the remote that determines whether it should keep outputting any video/audio.

You may have also inadvertantly set a 'Power off' time within 'menu' > 'settings' > 'time'

I had checked and have re-checked...there are no timers set (or at least none showing!).
Both times it switched off at 17.02 which, from memory, was the end of Channel 5 news update. ( I was not really watching the TV, it was on in the background)
I will watch again this afternoon at 17.00 and see what happens. If it switches off again I will do a "factory reset" as there is no software update available.

I ...don't....believe...it

Thanks for replying. If what you say is correct then watching at 17.02 today will not achieve anything as the TV has only been on for thirty minutes. On the previous occasions it had been on all afternoon. Any idea how long is considered an "inactive period" ? Presumably it is a fixed time in which case it will be easy to check.
Edit: Rather strange it was exactly the same time on both days which suggests that I made the last input at exactly the same time on each day. That, I do NOT believe because the first day I was playing about with recording/replaying and trying the controls. The second day let the programme run for some hours without any use of controls. There is no way the inactive period could be identical on both days..

Well it appears that the inactive switch off is a no no. The receiver was on for eight hours yesterday without touching a button but it didn't turn off.
Today, ten hours, no "activity", no switch off but with "Automatic Standby" set to "Enable" this time.

Which begs the question.........just what does Automatic Standby do when enabled?.
