My IPOD is synched to my PC.

My wife has an IPOD too so am I able to connect both these to my laptop while keeping the content separate?

Thanks in advance

Mods- just spotted the correct forum for this - please move this thread thanks

Can you explain how that works?

I have ITUNES installed for my IPOD but presumably as soon as my wifes IPOD is connected all the content of hers will vanish and be replaced by my Itunes content

Go to your computer's control panel and create a new user account for your wife. Then when you pc boots up select her account and mange iTunes for her ipod on that account. It will be separate from yours. I don't know of another way of doing it.

So once I've opened a separate account on the PC what happens?

When I open Itunes will it be empty or do I reinstall Itunes afresh for that new account?

many thanks for your help

Well when I did this iTunes was already installed on the other account, empty and ready to use. There may have been an option for this when I first installed iTunes, I don't remember. If its not there, just download it onto that account and do as you did on your one.

Easy peasey- you have an iTunes library. Start two different folders called 'Him' and 'Her' then in the former you add all the Metal and Rock tracks then in the 'Her' folder put all the Grime and Death Metal tracks. Link the iPod to the appropriate file and all is good...

...until you notice that if you do a playlist of 'most played' on your iPod library it contains some rubbish you'd rather die than listen to

You don't need to set up a separate account - as long as you don't mind the iPods sharing the same itunes library on the PC, just plug in the second iPod.

Click the iPod on the devices list, go through the tabs to choose what you want to sync (playlists, movies, photos etc). Click sync to sync that iPod with those settings.

When you attach the other iPod, it'll show the settings for that one.

I have 4 different iPods (an original 5Gb, a nano, a shuffle and a Touch) all synced to the same library, all have different selections of music (a lot overlaps of course) - but the point is basically 4 ipods on one computer.

Virtually everything on my wifes IPOD does not currently appear on my Itunes , so I'm assuming that when I connect her Ipod to the PC all her songs will vanish

If your wife's iPod has it's content from another computer (another itunes library), you'll need to set up a new account on the PC as suggested by the others.

The new account will have an empty 'My Music' folder, so you'll either need to copy across the library from the other computer, or download a utility (Ephpod for example) to retrieve the contents off your wife's iPod, and set up a new iTunes library that way.

Not immediately- iTunes will ask you if you want to reset the iPod.
