Exactly what I thought, except I don't think it was to save Tim, it was because Alex could be a threat down the line, he was getting a lot of good feedback.
Same for Siobhan sadly.
I also think Didi is the chosen one not Crystal.
Whatever it's way too early to be throwing good contestants under the bus, they're few enough as it is.

I agree with people saying Crystal looked unwell, and it gets so much harder as it goes on, they are all exhausted by the end, she's going to struggle.

All in all this series is pretty much a goner for me now.

I didn't think they were similar enough to affect each other. I personally preferred Lily out of the two though I can see that Crystal is hugely talented. I just hope Lily has made enough of an impact that someone picks her up and gives her a record deal.

Two of the worst performances of the live shows so far in my opinion.

The Scientist was far too slow for a song that is slow enough already and A Change Is Gonna Come has to go down as the worst performance of that song I've ever heard.

Alex was my favourite of the performances this week.

Todrick should not have gone either.

Only contestants left that I like are Siobhan and Casey.

All things considered, I am surprised the poor man's Lemar survived the public vote as long as he did. He'd been rumoured to be a dodgy character weeks ago.

Alex is good but I personally didn't like his tone. I can't quite put my finger on who it reminds me of.

Lilly was image over voice and Katelyn was just your run-of-the-mill contestant that in a tougher year wouldn't even have been put through to the last 24.

It comes to something when the fifth and eighth placed contestants from the previous year give better performances than those in the actual competition, particularly when one of them in Scott McIntyre.

Don't agree with that at all. In fact, if anything her image may have been what put people off her. Katelyn, I agree, wasn't anything special.

Here's what Lilly thought about her elimination:

Looks like this will be a stinker of a season for Idol this year, like 2009's X Factor, we all have'em I suppose.

I didn't see any arrogance. I saw her being very supportive when any of the other contestants put in a good performance too. She just came across as a person who was really into music.

She has self belief which isn't the same as arrogance IMO.

I didn't see any arrogance from her throughout the show, but in her immediate reaction to being eliminated I thought she came across as annoyingly self-entitled, and even worse in that interview. I had to laugh, and I laughed at that interview too, because she thinks she's something special, something that "breaks the mold" as she said, but she's really not. I've walked past better busking on the streets. She doesn't have the talent to back up what she says.

I would also agree that she was image over voice, style over substance. Tried a bit too hard to be 'quirky' and 'unique'. I liked her version of A Change is Gonna Come (even though it pales in comparison to other versions) but I was never really impressed by her as a singer or a musician.

She was standing there all ready to comfort Katie, and then BAM ! Her face when her name was read out was pretty funny.

Gutted that Alex has gone, he had a unique and contemporary voice a bit like James Morrison.

I am SO disappointed! I was expecting a 'shock eviction' because I saw this thread title before I watched the evictions, but I was expecting a 'shock' along the lines of early favourites Katie and Andrew going.

I'm sad Katelyn went, I liked her, but I can deal with her going, it wasn't a huge shock. But Alex! I was liking him more and more, I really thought he'd do well, he was one of my favourites and I was just thinking he could become my number one favourite depending on how things went in the next week or two . I'm really shocked, what were America thinking? Was it a case of thinking he was safe?

And Lilly! She surely deserved a place in the top 12? I guess the problem was there's a lot of similar girls this year, but even so, how could bland and blander Paige and Katie get in ahead of her?

At least Todrick went though .

I am so gutted that Alex went, I don't really have any guy to root for now..
And also gutted for the other three.. My list of favourites is dwindling fast..

I'm sad Alex has gone, I thought he and Mike were the best of the males, closely followed by Lee.

I think in Alex's case it wasn't so much shyness that affected things as a lack of projected sex appeal. You need to get the girls on your side in the earlier stages, and I suspect he didn't.

Sad too about Lilly. There was something very charming in a sixties throwback way about her.

I think Tim and Paige should have gone in place of those two.

Alex I'm most disappointed about - a bit of Elliott Yamin about him. Fabulous voice but needed to work on the stage presence.

I'd rather have listened to him each week than the likes of Aaron.

Still, at least most of the good girls got through.

This is, on average, a poor Top 12 - yes, a couple of quite good singers in there, but no superstars (yet) and at least 4 really below standard finalists bringing the whole level down. It's a sign, along with Simon dumping the show and Paula having gone last year, that AI is on the way out and that X Factor will quickly defeat it.

That Alex didn't make it through is dreadful, he's precisely the shy, 'lost' sort of insuecure amateur performer with a hidden golden talent that this series was created to make a star of. I can only guess what happened is that Tim Urban's out of the blue stellar performance of show favourite Hallelujah vacuumed up Alex's votes, plus he went in an ignominious second place in a line of guys all playing the guitar singing similar songs. Tim's is one of only 2 I can remember what they sang. Most people who vote who aren't committed to one act are actually voting for the song.

There are 2 really dreadful performers utterly lacking in star quality in there that have no chance - Andrew and Aaron; both of them are below average singers with poor musical judgement, zero personality and they're both ugly. I can only assume babies and great-grannies voted for Aaron and Hispanics and spectacle wearers who can't see voted for Andrew. I missed or can't remember his allegedly amazing all time performance they go on about. Todrick had more potential than these two, yes I know he's not to everyone's taste, but he was good looking with personality and stage presence if no originality, at least that's better than being incompetent and god-awful to watch.

Lilly also should not have gone. She's probably a victim similar to Alex - this week along came the gorgeous Didi and did a Tim Urban - she vacuumed up all the spare votes in the Bowersox and Others category, leaving Lilly with too few. Katie and Paige went through on a combo of kiddies' and sympathy votes because they got a (deserved)roasting. Both of them are horrendously out of their depth warbling in front of a tiny friends and family audience, once they get on to the big stage with the big bands and the big stars in front of thousands they will be even worse. Time for earplugs!

Crazy that those 4 went home last night- it should have been Katie, Paige, Aaron and Tim

Actually I think they may have been my two favourite guys overall; Michael's the only other guy I rate on the show, but I don't like how he comes across - a bit arrogant and smug. And all the other guys are absolutely rubbish. Would've liked to have seen some of the deadwood go instead (Casey, Lee, Andrew). I've been slating the guys for a couple of weeks now, but this week, just as I start to find a couple of them interesting, they get cut!

Katelyn and Lily were OK, but nothing special. I did really like Katelyn's performance last week though. Lily had one OK performance and seemed to always try too hard to be "quirky". Paige and Katie should definitely have been the ones to go though.”

Not to criticize your opinion, but when you label arguably the 3 strongest guys as deadwood then you are likely to end up disappointed with the possible results.

Justin Bieber mark 2..lol
so unfair that Katie and Paige..dull and duller are still in over Lilly
Its pretty obvious whos voting for Tim Urban.
and i think Aaron is getting the gay vote.

I was glad to see the back of three out of those four, actually.

Lilly was alright as a singer, but she was not anything special. I found her quite boring and her song choices were not my taste.

Alex had no star quality and looked too ordinary to be a star. Okay as a singer, but no personality.

Todrick - I preferred him to Andrew and Aaron and Mike and Tim and Lee. At least he looked the part and made an effort to do a performance.

The blonde girl (Caitlyn - whatever) - dreadful. Her song last week was so slow and boring. I hate that song and her version made it even worse. This week she looked like she was waiting for a bus with her lacklustre performance.

My faves are Casey, Didi, and Crystal.

True, they seem to be 3 of the more popular guys so will probably hang around for a while.

Casey could potentially be the best of the guys but has played it a bit too safe with his song choices and arrangements so far. Or maybe he's playing the game just right and is waiting for the right time to surprise us so he doesn't peak too soon.

Lee always slips up in a few places in his singing, and I don't think he has the stage presence or confidence needed, and I think a lack of confidence affects his performances sometimes. That's what I thought of Alex too but I could see Alex getting better each week he was in it, and I don't think Lee has progressed just yet.

I guess I just don't 'get' Andrew though, don't really like his voice either.

I'm gutted Alex has gone, he had so much potential and was getting better every week. I think he could have produced something really special if he'd stayed longer.

I'm disapointed that Lilly went out, didn't care for her look and didn't care for her blaming her departure due to the tweenie voting but did like her voice.

Surprised about Alex he did have a good voice the other two... well non-plussed by their respective departures.

Gutted, just absolutly gutted about the results, in my opinion some of the worst results EVER!!! It should NO WAY have been those four leaving the stage. America is mad and the producers have lost the plot!!

I am sooo dissapointed about Lilly I think she totally deserved her place in the final 12. She was very talented and different. I expected a shock like in other years of a fallen early favorite i.e Katie.

I am truly gutted about Alex. He was the perfect contestant for the show, the shy but lovable kid who will grow and develop. I thought he was a cert to be through and we would see more of him. I cannot believe he is not there. It just seems so unfair.

Worst results in a looooonnnng time I guess I was just lucky with my favs making the top 2 of seasons 7 and 8.

Who should have gone: Andrew, Aaron, Katie, Piage, Lacey or Tim.
