I have copied a dvd to my hard disk and now have the following files for the film:

VIDEO_TS ( IFO FILE 6KB)
VIDEO_TS.BUP ( BUP FILE 6KB)
VTS_01_0 (IFO FILE 60KB)
VTS_01_0.BUP (BUP FILE 60KB)
VTS_01_1 (VOB FILE 1,048,574KB)
VTS_01_2 ( SAME AS ABOVE )
VTS_01_3 ( SAME AS ABOVE )
VTS_01_4 ( SAME AS ABOVE )
VTS_01_5 ( SAME AS ABOVE )

I would like to convert this files to play this movie from my humax HDR, using AV2HRD.

I am having trouble understanding the steps involved to do this.

Please can someone be kind enough to help me with this, ie, what the steps are, what additional programs/software is needed.

Thankyou for your help

You need to convert the VOB files to something that the HDR will understand like .ts.

Here is a link to freeware QMC program that will convert from DVD/VOB to .ts extension.

www.cocoonsoftware.com/

As the DVD is made up of several 1Gb files you may have to join them together after the conversion to make one long .ts file or your footage will be in several parts when shown in the HDR’s media list.

I have never converted DVD for the HDR so I am only point you in a general direction here.

If you decide to use QMC, have a play about with it using small files to save waiting around for the conversation to finish.

The files:

VTS_01_1.vob
VTS_01_2.vob
VTS_01_3.vob
VTS_01_4.vob
VTS_01_5.vob

are the files that the movie is contained in. As a test you could drop the VTS_01_1.vob file into the AV2HDR program and you would then get the first 20 mins or so of the movie.

The AV2HDR prog creates 3 files, an .ts (video/audio) and the .nts and .htm files (needed for Humax). Stick these onto your USB drive and you should be good to go.

To put the whole movie onto onto the USB requires more explanation. I have found a program that offers a 1 click solution to whole movies ie dvd, divx, mkv but so far adding HD content to the box with any sort of useabilty has baffled me.

Add the first .vob to TSmuxergui. Then join the others to make one file. AV2HDR will convert the joined files.

I think everybody has gone back to watch BBC HD so I will step in again.

Graham is right the TSmuxerGUI is much, very much quicker and easier to use than QMC.

I tried a quick VOB file and the audio did not work on the default settings in QMC, however it worked 1st time with TSmuxer.

The out put file I just used in TSmuxer was .ts and this worked fine with video and audio.

Although I have not tried it I think that AV2HDR will work with m2ts as well.

In my experience this produces files greater than 4GB in size.

I am making a big assumption here but if the OP was not too sure about how to go about the process to make files HDR compatible then they wouldn't be that knowledgeable about linux file systems.

The file I created was greater than 4GB, so USB stick no good due to size limitation. I have a 1TB sata drive in caddy attached to HDR, removed this and connected to my pc then booted in linux using Slax, copied files across to 1TB external drive and then reconnected back to Humax, works ok.

If the file is greater than 4GB (I use m2ts normally), reduce the dvd folder in size using dvdshrink, the loss in quality is not noticeable

Graham,

I did that in DVDshink, many thanks for your help.

Once the final files are created in AV2DVD, can the 3 files be renamed ok to the DVD title instead of the date created by AV2DVD ??

The software allows you to change the filename to anything you want, not tried it but I guess if you change the names to something else provided they all match it will work fine.

Incidentally AV2HDR is now at version 1.3
