I watched EE from the start til about 1997 but then was living abroad and missed it til I came back in December. I've managed to piece a lot of it together (much of it from reading posts on here - thanks!), but can someone please tell me who or what is buried in the square?

Owen is buried there. He is Denise's ex husband. He is buried under Trina's tree after Owen murdered him. Trina is Lucas's ex wife who he accidentally killed.

Long answer: Denise's first husband, an ex-alcoholic called Owen Turner was released from prison last year, after being imprisoned for trying to kill their daughter Libby. He got dry in prison and upon his release went to stay with his Mum Liz (who'd come back specially from Spain to try and patch up Owen and Libby's relationship). He got under Lucas' skin, Lucas started violently threatening him and from that and other things, Owen began to suspect that Lucas had killed his recently deceased wife Trina. (Lucas did actually leave Trina to die after she got impaled by a rake in Charlie's shed!) On the day of Lucas and Denise's wedding, Lucas decided to shut Owen up once and for all by strangling him with a bow-tie and eventually burying him in the gardens.

Short answer: Owen

Wow! He actually buried someone in the square! I knew that he'd killed his ex-wife but that she was found apparently having OD'd. Why on earth would he bury someone in the square?????? The flowers thing makes sense to me now. Thanks for taking the time to reply...... I know it's annoying when folk ask for the history of a storyline.

Anything you want to know about the early days, let me know!

Yeah, I know, it's pretty stupid, burying someone right in the middle of a residential square-especially when most people on that square all know that person/know of him and know that he's 'gone missing'.

That's ok, I'm just killing time anyway!

I'll hold you to that, next time I want to know something about the early days!

But remember he would have thrown Owen's body in the canal if the fisherman hadn't come. Also he was in a panic to get to the wedding on time so he wrapped Owen in carpet and plonked him in the book of Phil's car where he stated throughout the wedding.

Lucas had no time to carefully choose a spot and there was a huge hole the council had dug for Trina's tree anyway so what more convenient than to kill two birds with onestone and bury Owen there, planting the tree on top. Nobody would ever suspect anythuing and lso nobody other than Lucas knows or even suspects Owen's dead.

Anyway
Spoiler

She's buried properly, in some graveyard. Remember her funeral when Stacey jumped into the grave?

And he managed to retrieve the body from the car and bury it all within the space of 10 minutes and without his wife, who he had left in bed, suspecting a thing

Please do! I think I pretty much remember most of it..... I'm sure there are finer details that I'll struggle to recall, but ask away and I'll help if I can.

I don't see how everybody finds it difficult to understand that Lucas buried the body in 10 minutes without anybody seeing....

God helped him. :P

I hope the body stays in the square. Would be pointless having there in the first place if he was just going to move it

Can you imagine the size of the fountain if they had to include the names of everybody who had died in/around the square?

This fountain was created to commemorate the lives of Bradley Branning, Owen Turner, Trina Johnson, Danielle Jones , Pauline Fowler, Johnny Allen, Dennis Rickman, Mark Fowler... to be continued
