The classy girl and the binman - been done before?
The current storyline in Corrie with Carla and the binman has got me reaching into the confines of my memory.
I'm sure I've seen this storyline done before - not necessarily a soap, but I do remember someone trying to cover up what her boyfriend did for a living, because she was embarrassed by it. I think it all came good in the end though. Can anyone else remember it, and put me out of my misery and tell me which character/programme it was? |

The only one I can think of offhand is not a soap. but when Roz Doyle was dating Roger the binman in Frasier.

theatnam - THANK YOU!! You're spot on.
That is the one I was thinking about. Although I might have got the "classy" girl a bit wrong in Roz's case!

Wasn't Sonia slightly ashamed of Martin being a market trader?

I think Cury Watts in Corrie was a bin man before he went into the supermarket. He changed his job and tried to better himself because someone made fun of him (I think)

And who could forget Corrie's legendary Eddie Yeats and his delectable totty Marion ...?

Classy? I like Carla, but she's not "classy" in the sense of being supereducated or particularly well bred*, and she resorts to some very unclassy slanging when she comes into conflict. Also, she's chosen men who aren't particularly sophisticated, but who have enough money to buy her loads of designer clothes, and let's not forget - her old man is currently banged up! So, rather than being a posh bird, she's the gangster's moll type.
If, as she said, she's not a snob and has solid working class roots, maybe she respects a man who works hard at an honest job, and who isn't sleazy or trying to be smooth. At least, she'd enjoy going on a date with him. * well bred .. I mean she's not one of these women who's been brought up to be polite and gracious, nor to appreciate culture over money and vulgar displays of status. |

If the story has been done before it isn't necessarily rubbish but merely recycled!
