Is Lady Gaga the new Madonna?

Great songs, great videos, great following. Some might say she's outdone Madonna when compared to both artist's early careers.

Will Gaga still be prominent in 30 years time?

She won't be around in 30 years (musically that is). She is peaking too early and I doubt she's going to be able to re-invent herself. She's too "wacky" now so she has nothing to build up to.

Imho Nope, In fact I think her music is dreadful...I wish she would just "go away". Every time she comes on the radio I to flick to another station, Over rated. Michael bubble or what ever his name is, has the same effect too.

The thing is, I like to see myself as someone who see's both sides, and as i type (as a gaga fan) I am going to imagine i cannot stand gaga and her music. But if i did, i wouldn't actually call it crap.

'poker face' is lyrically very clever indeed. Especially the first and 'muffin' verse.

None of that clever stuff could be written by a management company i.e. mancufactured crap like JLS.

I think it's a little too early to say if she'll have a 30 year career, I'd be surprised if any of the artists around today are still there in 30 years, it all seems so transient now.

However, I think of all the 'new' Madonna's that have come along, she is the one with the most potential. Mainly because she seems more in control of her own output and choices than say Britney or Christina ever were. My only concern is that she will burn herself out or overkill it, she seems a bit relentless in her pursuit of fame but there again who does that remind you of?

I would say Lady gaga is the new gwen stefani
Gwen wore some outrageous outfits back in the day. Gaga sounds like her on several songs on her album, however there is a madonna vibe about her as well.

an interesting question to be fair...

i dont think anyone of us back in 83-4 when this 'new exciting artiste' from america came here thought for 1 moment that she would still be around in nearly 30 years time.

theres no reason why gaga shouldnt become a long standing artiste, i reckon its more down to does she want to....

GaGa needs a break. She's overworking herself. 'Just Dance' was in the top 40 for months, then 'Poker Face' entered and she had two songs in the top 40 for a while, then JD left and 'Paparazzi' entered and then PF left then 'Love Game' entered and then LG and Paparazzi both left and then there about a months break without GaGa before Bad Romance was leaked and her second album in 12 months was released. Now Bad Romance has been in the charts since December and Telephone is probably going to be in the top three next week.

Never mind the fact that she's got ANOTHER album out this autumn, she's also constantly on tour and making massive videos. She needs to take a 18 - 24 month break or something, get people to miss her and then come back with another classic song.

Lady gaga is working too hard. Mariah worked too hard and had a nervous breakdown. Let's see if it happens to her

do we really need another maddona ?

i mean she was commercially successful but ultimately a musical lightweight
the george michael female equivalent bubbly airy pop songs later to write in shock value to the recipe but still wrap it up in a melody not that far detached from a childs
nursery rhyme therefore excluding few and making it very easy listening ,
gaga is following a similar trend to some extent in that she is taking easily accessible music and adding controversial (to her i suppose but rather outdated imho) lyrics
to get record sales and hits ,
nothing new nothing to push boundrys just same old same theres female singers dressing in skimpy clothes all over rock and techno scene and sex and relationship lyrics all over every scene but she like maddona and others have combined this to create something the average chart fan can get into and feel rebellious over
its like mc fly and motley crue eminem and snoop dog ,
today her fans adore her tommorow they will deny knowing her but in between she will make a fortune i imagine .

No, she won't be. Where else has she got to go now? Killing a lamb in her next video perhaps, or even watching Beyonce take a poop?

Two Girls and A Cup starring Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga.

I wouldn't be surprised.

people would put up with repetitive lyrics as the video re ran in their heads as they sat on the bus with their mp3 on .

Well at the moment Lady Gaga's certainly creating much more interesting music than Madonna but I don't think she can be compared to Madonna in her prime.

I never thought much of Madonna, but you can't deny her influence on music. I can't see Lady Gaga's influence anywhere, all she has done is repeat ideas arleady laid down before her. Also, although I don't like but a few of Madonna's songs, at least they have meaning. Non of Gaga's singles have meant anything other than sex and dancing. Also, each song has sounded almost identical, same sounds, same beats, same melodies, same themes. Until she does something innovative, and having a good video isn't innovative, she'll just be an "it" girl. People's taste is always changing, this electro-EU-pop thing is very popular right now (even though the likes of Britney were making a success out of it even when nobody else was) but that will change, and people are going to tire of Gaga. Also, people are already getting tired of her "shocking" outfits, nothing shocks anymore.

The fact is no one really know's what the future will bring. No one know's wherther GaGa has run out of ideas unless they GaGa. To suggest because they cannot think of any more things GaGa can do, she must think the same is utterly ridculous and only shows they do not share the creative mindset of GaGa.

I know GaGa herself, is not orginal but who is? Beyonce isn't, Amy Wino isn't, Rihanna isn't, Britney isn't, all those indie rock bands aren't. But the way GaGa takes her insprations and channels them is something I have never seen before. I have never seen an artist take Bowie, Madonna, Grace Jones & MJ and mould together to create the vision that GaGa does. And until someone proves me wrong on that matter I will continue to believe that element of her music is orginal.

GaGa makes bonfide pop hits with clever yet catchy lyrics to have hit singles that are memorable but her her albums are a body of music. Her album displays so many different types of pop music, some are fun and catchy others are excellent ballads. Speechless reminds me something that the Beatles would do, and Brown Eyes remind of the 70's glam rock era. Disco Heaven reminds me of 70's disco and SummerBoy reminds me of MJ's ''Girlfriend''. Alejandro reminds me of ''La Ilsta Bonita'' and elements of Dance In The Dark reminds me of ''Vogue''. Just Dance & Poker Face remind of quirky modern day electro pop Madonna songs.

Paper Gangsta is like electro pop, pop and hip hop got fused together to create a track about GaGa's disatrous time at Def Jam. GaGa tracks such as the Fame, Money Honey, Beautiful Dirty Rich, & Paparazzi about her thoughts on fame as such give me strong images of Fame and what it means everytime I listen to them. No artist has really done this for me except GaGa.

GaGa has certain mystery about her, that I find intirguring and hilarous at the same time. But I love the hidden meanings behind her songs. It makes things interesting, instead of obvious. it makes things fun. It brings fun and mystery back into pop music.
I don't know wherther GaGa will be here in thirty years, and we know this for none of the other artists either. But instead of speculating on such issues, and saying yes or no we can only do what music intends for us to do: enjoy ourselves listening to music by purchasing the music of the artist's we love.

Why does she have to be the 'new' anyone? She might last, she might not, it's too early to tell.

You really expect her to have an influence on artists already, when she's only been around a short period of time herself?!

And listen to her lyrics properly.

She's definitely got the most potential from all those who have come since Madonna.

She clearly has the drive Madonna had, she has her own ideas about what she wants like Madonna had/has and 2 albums in she has shown clear consistency. Predicting what someone is going to do in 30 years time is impossible, but I'd say there was a good chance she could go the distance.

Her songs are immense, her albums work as whole pieces of music rather than 12 decent songs thrown together. She doesn't seem to be in this for the short haul of just cashing on as much as she can, she's clearly intent on becoming an Icon and if she carries on the way she has over the past 18 months I think she can do it.

Lady Gaga has brought back electropop, stronger than ever. She's saved pop music, and exploded all over the scene.

Lady Gaga's earlier singles, such as Just Dance and Love Game had no other meaning apart from sex, partying etc. But are you seriously, seriously going to tell me Paparazzi and Bad Romance have no meaning? If so, please feel free to PM me and I'll give you a 50,000 word essay as to why they do have meaning.

It will come down to picking the right producers to work with and keeping people interested like Madonna did.

The odds are against her.

LMAO!

In 30 years she won't get away with the keck she wears and all the 12-19 year olds who thinks she is "omg very risque" will have grown up while she probably still walks around with telephone hats.
