Check out the video posted in her Appreciation Thread. She needs a break. Now.

Of course her songs have meaning, but that never goes beyond sex or dancing. Feel free to PM me this 50,000 word essay trying to prove otherwise, but the fact remains, all her hits have been pointless, meaningless, yet catchy songs. Her videos rarely have anything to do with the song, look at Telephone and Bad Romance.

The lyrics didn't matter, she could've been singing about pancakes, the songs are catchy and the majority of the buying public won't be looking for anything with meaning, they just want to get trashed and have a dance.

She didn't burst onto the scene either, she fought her way onto the scene and only managed a hit 6 months after she released her single through association with Xtina, her outfits and lack of competition at the time. She didn't make electro current either, here in the UK we've always been that way, over in the US things were moving that way (see the Blackeyed Peas, Kanye West). Britney's Blackout is arguably what set it off, although she'd started back with In The Zone but she was the only one really doing it at that time.

She found a formula that works. Everything is calculated to the "T", extremely contrived, from her persona, to her music, to her videos. She basically keeps writing the same song and releasing it over and over again. She's interesting at the moment, but the next innovator/pop royalty/trendsetter/influence, I don't think so. As I said, once she does something truley artistic and innovative MUSIC wise, she is nothing but a radio wet dream.

Her songs are only about sex and dancing. ok then

And have you actually listened to the lyrics for Bad Romance; the video makes sense.

Oh, You mean like Paparazzi - which is about neither, or The Fame - which is about neither, oh and Brown Eyes - which is about neither...

Besides about 80% of all chart music is about sex or dancing!

Her songs do not have depth - they have as much meaning as a Britney song...Gaga just tries to cover it by pretending to be some sort of avante garde artist when in fact shes just a wannabe who tries too hard to emulate her idols. Im waiting for the backlash...but for now, im happy to avoid her diluted impersonation of Madonna.

I think the novelty will wear off pretty quickly. A couple of years later, she'll release a forgettable, 'catchy' radio-friendly song exactly like all the others, with an expensive over-the-top video full of ridiculous outfits, and people will think 'so what?'

both lack any depth whatsoever but Madonna's early stuff was more likeable and she had loads more charisma

She does that already.

Unfortunately people think it's cool to go :

I am surprised she has not been arrested by the Fashion Police and charged with Wearing Outrageous and Silly Clothes in Civilian Areas.

Paparazzi is bout stalking a guy until he loves her and does her. It's hardly heart renching.
And Bad Romance is just "Toxic" by Britney with less creative lyrics and and uninspired melody.

Let's see if she manages to get a hit number one songs with actual meaning, like Everytime was for Britney (which she wrote herself along with the piano riffs).

Paul Grein (Billboard, 1985) - "Madonna will be out of the business in six months. Her image has completely overshadowed her music."

Sound a little bit familiar?

I think it's too early to tell but Madonna was written off as passing phase all those years ago, so who can say!

I'd say there is a possible connection between Lady Gaga career and Madonna's early career.

Personally, I'd say Gaga's rise to fame has been nothing more than an exploitation of the current viral marketing trends. She's succeeded in getting herself out there and whilst she may not have the 'hits' yet (and by that I mean on a global scale like Madonna), neither did Madonna at the start of her career, so there pretty much on level pegging at this stage in the game.

The only way Gaga will ever manage to be 'the New Madonna' contender is to pull something out of the bag (no, not her head) fairly soon that can achieve global recognition.

Not only does she have to have a mighty fine song but also need a clever marketing gimmick. Sorry, but dressing up in a silly costume won't do, it has to be controversial something that will get the world talking and baring in mind Madonna has probably ticked off every controversial trick in the book, Gaga's got her work cut out to find something new.....well, best of luck to her but I don't think it's going to happen.

Just my opinion folks.

You post about GaGa singing meaninless songs about sex and dancing but then start praising Britney?!?! The very same Britney who has songs such as Get Naked (I Got a Plan), If You Seek Amy, I'm a Slave 4 U, Outrageous and many many others.

Also, despite being a huge Britney fan myself, I personally find Speechless to have much more meaning, depth and personal lyrics then Everytime. I also believe GaGa wrote far more then just the chords and piano riffs

In her first year, GaGa has been amazingly successful. She's publicised herself well, come out with some good tunes, become a much discussed figure and established a quirky image.

What happens next is going to be interesting. She's really done well with her first releases, but I think her next couple of albums will be vital in determining whether she's a long-stay superstar or a bit of a short-lived craze. No matter what happens, I think she's guaranteed herself a level of notoriety that will attach itself to her for a good many years to come, but it'll be her next lot of output that will decide if that's as a celebrity or as a superstar, IMHO.

Paparazzi is not about that, I suggest you do your research before making sweeping statements. How you can praise Britney's 'talent' over Gaga's, is INSANE.

Just out of curiosity, in the grand spectrum of female popstars with Madonna as queen and all these 'next Madonnas' hanging around, where does Kylie fit in? And who is the next Kylie?

I just finsihed the telephone video. Madonna didn't need this publicity is Lady Ga Ga male or female or has she got a di*k. Madonna didn't need cheap publicity like that and its obvious that Ga Ga is most definitely a Woman.
Madonna always was a talented singer. Lady ga ga is okay but for me she's isnt in Madonna's league. I can't see Ga Ga being around as long as Madonna has.

Madonna can't sing well though, I've always been puzzled by her enormous success.

Madonna was never a great vocalist but like everything else in her career she worked hard on it and improved her vocals a lot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du0Yq5Wxeok

Also with most of hers songs she's usually dancing around so its more difficult to sound great whereas someone like Leona just stands still while singing

Gaga will have to been reinventing herself. Kylie and Madonna have done it loads and they still manage a platinum album with a couple of top 10 hits.

how Kylie made a career out of music is unfathomable
