It's far too early to tell how long Lady GaGa will last, but I agree with those who say she may have peaked too early. Madonna didn't really become a phenomenon until her second and third albums.

Personally, I can't say I'm bowled over by GaGa at the moment. The shocking outfits are tiresome and there's a hell of a lot of filler on her album IMO. Of course, Madonna's first album wasn't great either but I can't think of anything on The Fame which could have the same longlasting appeal as Holiday, for instance.

Actually, hearing people go crazy over GaGa and not understanding why makes me feel old... maybe I'm just past it nowdays.

I like how Neil Tennant put it in the NME last week. He said that Madonna influenced a whole generation, girls would walk and dress like her, whilst many female musicians would/still imitate her. Whilst Gaga not as much. This is what he said

"She's not the cultural phenomenon that Madonna was...Lady Gaga has just made a fantastic record."

Now I don't agree with him as Gaga isn't my thing (neither is Madonna to be fair), but he pretty much sums it up with that statement.

when madonna came out she was somewhat more original aswell. with Gaga if you kind of take away the wakyness and just focus on the music its really just unoriginal throwaway electro pop, the like of what Britney Spears was doing a few years ago. No one will be thinking of Poker Face and Just Dance as classics in 30 years time.

Maybe not, but nobody has ever done anything like Bad Romance before.

Nope. Madonna was the original queen of shock tactics, I dont think Gaga comes close to topping her. Plus Madonna knows when to turn it on and off, Gaga is starting to overdo it now

Seriously thinking this through..

Lady Gaga isn't the new Madonna.

Lady Gaga is the first Lady Gaga, and in years to come, you will hear..

"Oh, she's the new Lady Gaga"

Whatever you think of her, you can't deny her talent, flawless success, or courage.

Is Lady Gaga the new Madonna?

Yes, she is. She has said this in not so many words herself by admitting that her cultural icons/influences are MJ; Madonna Freddie Mercury and Andy Warhol.

Her Fame Monster album is fab and she is indeed influencing current culture in much the same way as Madonna did.

Lady Gaga also musically reminds me of Gwen Steffani and Tori Amos. Her fashion/image sense is also very Madonna/Gwen/Roisin Murphy.

She is a breath of fresh air at atime when pop was in danger of becoming dull. My worry is that she may crash and burn - her ascendance has been almighty ... and she needs to take care of herself...she has lost weight dramatically and her tour ambitions have ridiculously quick footed. I also hear that she may be embarking on a 3d tour after this current one has returned to the states. Her fame Monster album is great but some mixing and mastering is a little hit and miss. And I found her Fame Monster Ball tour to be a rushed thought with some continuity issues. I enjoyed it and there were some highlights but over all it was an 8/10 and those costume changes really hindered the flow and energy. She also was clearly miming certain segments of songs. Something which she denied she would do.

So Lady Gaga - take some time off and re-think ...love the telephone video....

I cant believe tht sane people of this planet wud claim tht britney was in the same league as gaga, britney doesnt write her own music, mimes at evry performance of recent years even her own concert and in general has never offered anything different to the music world.

tht first bit out of the way, now bak to comparing gaga and madonna. i am a gaga fan but tht doesnt mean to say i dont like some of madonnas music. When she was first compared to madonna, i remember looking up lods of madonna videos and performances. They were good but i cant see anything tht leaps out as me or makes me think real art is happeneing here! i feel tht gaga has created art in every song and video. her songs all represent different stories tht obviously some people havent bothered to check out. she even says tht evry song has a deeper meaning or narration to it. and people saying tht the telephone video (the most amazing piece of art tht i have seen in my lifetime) has nothing to do with the story shud hear wat she says about it and then u can realise tht it makes a lot of sense. plus any other artist (like britney) wud have set the video in a club with her boyfriend calling her but thts so expected and boring.

i also find her to be a lot more believable thn madonna, who doesnt seem very sincere, is slightly souless IMO (perhaps success has hardeneded her i dnt know) and not particualrly nice while i see the passion in gaga and the charisma oozes from her, albeit in a werid sense of the way.

im not agaist madonna, i just feel tht gaga has more talent and the potential to do way more and revolutionise performances and videos alike (i really dont understand people saying tht the need to shock is getting tiresome because only a few weeks agos, reviews of her UK concert which i went to see, were saying tht it was amaizng, she didnt get one bad review and ive never herd anyone complain tht its getting boring on the contrary evryone waits for gagas performances at award shows with baited breath so i think thts just urselves and not a large group of people).

in 30 years, lets hope tht she will still be going strong!
