He always seems to get the poor songs, poor props and poor routines. I watch every week thinking this could be the week and it just does not happen.

I still predict he could do something amazing that will WELL us all and maybe win the show at the death.

By winning the show at the death, do you mean Gary winning it will kill DOI once and for all...?

He's had plenty of routines that could have been good. But when you look like you hate what you're doing, they're never going to work.

It doesn't really matter anyway though, he'll be in the final two, based on the public vote, regardless of whether he does any good.

Cant really understand why people seem not to like him. He comes over quite well i think. I have watched every week and i honestly think he gets some bum deals. For example that stupid winter olympics thing was rubbish, tonight giving him the crap props and a crap old song. If it was judged on the best skater and not dancer i think he would be some way in front.

Really? I'm surprsed tha tyou think so. I actually think Gary has been given some pretty fantastic, memorable routines, that he just can't pull off.

I agree. The Olympic routine was meant to be the stand out, memorable routine of the week - it wasn't. Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick was supposed to have some rhythm and verve - it didn't. The Pulp Fiction routine was linked to an iconic film moment - and he couldn't do it.

Indeed. The winter olympics and Pulp Fiction routines were gifts, they could have been great fun and memorable if he'd bothered to commit to them. Instead he did them both half arsed and ended up looking stupid.

Agree with this. Maybe it's unfair but I couldn't help thinking with those routines that the likes of Chris & Kyran would have been brilliant. Shows that Gary isn't fit to lace their boots really.

I disagree with the OP. In my opinion it's the other way round - the routines have been let down by Gary. As a couple of the above posts have shown, I wasn't the only one to have wondered how the "Winter Olympics" routine would have been handled by a past celeb.

Gary just doesn't seem able to fully immerse himself in his performances. He started the series thinking he looked stupid doing the routines and it's an idea that seems to still be there subconsciously. The thing about this type of series is that the celebs actually look more stupid if they do the routines half-heartedly. Either Gary doesn't realise this or he genuinely can't "let himself go". It's a shame as he's an extremely competent skater and has far more potential than, say, Greg Rusedski.

I'm in the "Routines being let down by Gary" camp, I'm afraid OP. To add insult to injury, his spiritless attempts at everything he is given, makes it look like he is being partnered by a demented hobbit.

Last night wa the forst time that I thought gary actually enjoyed his performance and at last I some some conection with his partner

I am not sure why as an actor he is having problems selling routines, but as several people have said he has been given at least 2 routines that should have been memorable and really fun , but instead he has underperformed and whilst we are left with really very good skating skills we have really weak performance ( this last is entirely down to Gary and not the choreography or the routines)

I dont think it is lack of T and D giving him the right material , I think he is given the material and is not conecting with it or the audience

I think it is a combination of both things, some of his routines and music have been quite boring. I think the best routine he did was a couple of weeks ago, where it was quite a romantic routine. I can't remember the song now, but he did actually seem to act and show some emotion and connection with his partner.
I think the trouble with the faster routines, is that he just doesn't put any aggression into it. I think he is such a nice, laid back guy, that he hasn't got it in him.
I like him, but I think he should have gone over Danny.

It's perfectly plausible that someone who feels like a prat at first can overcome their concerns and turn OK performances into great ones. The Gethin Jones, Matt Dawsons and Danny Youngs of this world showed us that all it takes is a little application and a throwing-off of self-consciousness. But getting to the semi-final without managing to grasp what's being looked for is a bit of a liability, to say the least.

Could the producers not at least make some effort in the way they did with Danny, by getting him to watch videos and explain what he's doing wrong? Or have they tried and he's said he can't be bothered?

I think Gary has had some good routines ,especially the romantic one.Maybe the sticks weren't the best props this week.
I think the one who didn't get many good routines was Mikey,esp the film week where he didn't really get a character.

I thought he did really well with the Pulp Fiction routine.
If you actually watch the movie scene again, John Travolta performs the whole thing lazily, with a dead-pan expression..same with Uma Thurman. It's what made it so cool and iconic. I agree the Olympic routine was poor, but I thought it was a rather naff idea anyway.
This week..well, I just don't like props..period. None of the routines blew me away, but Daniella was the most entertaining..without doing much skating.

Gary has been given routines which could have been fantastic if given a bit of what Nicky calls 'committment'. The problem is that Gary's performance always seems half-hearted and lacklustre.

I have my fingers crossed that this is the week where he scores a 27+ and WELLS everyone with a great performance. I really believe its in him but he needs to show it this week or he is off.

IMO, I think Gary thinks he is better than he really is. Sorry but he leaves me feeling rather bored when I watch him.
