Oh dear, can see this being frowned upon by many, while I do pay for my music, this is just sad, how the BPI are such luddites.

Legislation works first and foremost as a deterrent. Once you get your head around this, you may understand why this has been done.

I think it's a step in the right direction.

He had the nerve to say 'there's so many talented people who deserve record deals.'

Mate, you aren't one of them!

Few examples.

If you download music through bittorrent
If you rip a purchased CD to your PC to mp3 files
If you lend a CD/DVD to a mate

You'll get arrested and probably prosecuted, for harming the music industry.

Buy music and dvds. Don't download them or your isp will cut you off. Allegedly!

IP address I'd imagine, but this is just one flaw in the Bill, I might add.

It's monitered through your IP address. If it's noticed that too much illegall activity is coming from your connection then you could be cut off.

Everything you look at or download from the internet can be logged by your provider. You didn't know this?

Whilst I agree people shouldn't download music illegally unless its otherwise unavailable, such as out-of-print, etc, what's wrong with ripping a CD, you've bought, so that you can play it on your iPod or mp3 player? Just because you put the CD on your computer doesn't mean you're going to upload it.

Basically, it means:

1) Politicians in this country are as clueless and out-of-touch as ever with the ways and needs of our modern, technologically-driven society.

2) Greedy record labels, having finally realised that they're redundant in this internet-age, are seeking one final attempt to steal money from us before their imminent and long-overdue death. Even if that means emptying the pockets of innocent victims.

3) Illegal downloaders will carry on as normal via alternative and less-easily trackable methods (which many do already), yet with even more hatred and lack of respect for both the UK government and the music industry.

So all-in-all, a resounding success...

So I can't put a CD that I've bought onto my iPod? Ridiculous.

I do agree that something needs to be done about illegal downloading, but preventing me from putting albums on my iPod will just drive me to downloading the album illegally to actually get it on my iPod.
