Are you a non -ew that eats kosher?
I've never met anyone besides me and the better half that does this, but apparently it's not that unsusal. I'm veggie, other half is vegan and kosher food is usually 'safe' to eat. Though you can get some odd looks in Sainsbury.

Seems like the same kind of people who also do buddhist chanting, kabbalah, saving rainforests, swimming with dolphins etc.

Most Jews I know don't eat kosher, it's a bit like most Catholics I know eat meat on a Friday. There are literally hundreds of rules when it comes to food being properly kosher. So for instance, kosher wine is only wine that has been handled from grape to cash register by a jewish person.
However, it is interesting that in areas were halal meat is not available, it is recommended for Muslims to eat kosher meat if available ( like in some areas of London ). |

Don't eat kosher but only because it's not available where I live.
I remember many many years ago when I was 18 going to a mates 18th birthday party and all the food there was Kosher (yes he was Jewish). Absolutely gorgeous it was. Needless to say, if given the opportunity again I would jump at the chance. I do eat Halal but now only from the local Indian restaurant/takeaway. Again we have no Halal shops here on the Isle of Wight but I have been very happy to buy Halal when the opportunity has arisen. In the end, I'm not bothered that Kosher or Halal are religious methods of production. If it tastes good I'll eat it. If it's a new food to me I'll relish the chance to try it. This doesn't always work out though as the veal tongue I had in France a few years ago testified. It wasn't like the pressed tongue from my childhood, it was actually body temperature and with a sauce that looked and tasted like cow spit with chewed grass in it. I ate it but never again. |

is there anywhere that halal meat is not available where you can find kosher?
Also, probably in parts of Israel. Strangely you can buy pork in some shops in Israel, they call it "little cow". |

I'm always surprised when I go to supermarkets outside London and find they don't stock things like Tivall sausages. I'm not Jewish but the kosher section is a good place to find vegetarian foods and it's a shame that many supermarkets have a poor selection. Sainsbury's kosher section looks like no one has tidied it for weeks and they have stopped stocking the interesting vegetarian patés I used to buy - maybe I was the only one that bought them.

Isn't it more to do with how it is prepared rather than the ingredients in this case.

They've got a big Jewish section at my local Tesco.
I bought some Matzo the other day as I'd never had them. Nice, quite like a water biscuit which are my favourite to have with cheese. Also got some fishballs, or gefilte fish of whatever you want to call them. Have them with fries and peas and some tartare sauce. |
