Hi there,

My parents have not been allowed BY Vision because the line speed is too low apparently. I have a second BT vision box, will they be able to use this with their BT broadband or will the box choke as their account is not setup with BT Vision. They will only want to use the EPG and recording facilities not the rest of it.

Thanks

unfortunately it will not work, as they need a vision account set up

What is their linespeed at the moment? A little bit of effort with the wiring can often reap huge speed improvements.

1)Make sure that the hub is connected directly to the master socket using a short screened CAT5 cable.

2) Don't allow the broadband signal to reach any of the secondary sockets. This can be achieved using a filtered faceplate which has the secondary benefit of eliminating the need for microfilters.

3) If you/they aren't keen to disconnect the bell-wire at the master socket then get one of BT's accelerator plates. If their master socket is incompatible with the plate then ask BT to replace it for you.

4) Leave the hub switched on and connected 24/7

Once this is done, wait for a few days and you/they will hopefully be pleasantly surprised at the improvement and they'll be able to order their own Vision account and you can keep your spare Vbox.
