hi there,

My garden is 100 ft long and i love to watch the birds but to photograph them is difficult for me as my camera zoom doesnt go that far.
Can anyone recommend a digital camera that will shoot close up at that length which doesnt cost me an arm or a leg please

any advice?

thanks

Hi Lydia

Your best bit is probably one of the digital cameras that offer a longer zoom than usual.

I recently purchased a Panasonic TZ6 from a reputable eBay seller for £129 that came with a case and 4gb sd card.

Its probably the best camera I've ever had and can really zoom and focus quite well.

Here are some reviews...

Let me know how you get on and what you decide on.

Hope I've helped.

There are a number of options you have, but first what is your budget? Expensive to one person can be cheap to the next

I would say that you would need something in the lined of 10 - 15 times zoom, based on 35mm, so a 350 - 525mm range. In SLR form that would be quite expensive.
However in prosumer form you should find something for less than £500.

I would be after at least 12M pixel to enable cropping as well to really get into the image. Though this has limitation and noise should also be factored in. I don't usually go in for pixel count, but here it could help you out!

Final point, at these zoom ranges GET A TRIPOD for steady, sharp shots

What about a Fuji Finepix S200EXR - I've got one and it's a cracking camera. There's a few people use it for birding on the dpreview forums and they are getting some fantastic results - see here for some great examples.
