I have been told that Phil Redmond has been asked by Mal Young if he would like to produce eastenders for six months to get it back on track. Phil Redmond who produces Hollyoaks and did produce Brookside helped Emmerdale out in 1993 when it had a ratings slump as well by killing off half the cast in a plane crash.

All they need to do now is to replace Louise Berridge. I might then start enjoying EE again.

Somome like Phil Redmond could help to get EE back on track with a spectacular storyline to bring back those who have switched off, followed by more 'classic' storylines rather than the current drivel - just like he did with Brookside in 2002/2003.

The only reason that didn't work is because Channel 4 were determined for it to fail so they could get rid of it. (Hence the move to Saturday afternoon which created lots of bad publicity about the show just days before the revamp, followed by the move to 23:30 on Tuesday nights, which halfed the remaining audience).

Phill Redmond is totally over-rated. Hollyoaks is an embarasment to watch, and brookside lost the plot years ago and had to be axed!

I would love that, Redmond alway gives his shows a fake filmic look until they finally get cancelled (or barely anyone watch them ie Hollyoaks).
So way to go BBC, mind you as soon a Eastenders gets the axe it will
be replaced by some reality TV program, I don't know what 's worse.

What is this filmic thing I keep reading about on here? Is it like when the characters are talking whilst the camera sort of moves round them? If so I HATE that effect, makes me feel sick!

So what are we going to have for (another) sensational storyline  Let me see....

Aahh derailment of the tube train at Walford station. Oh no, thats just a noise from a speaker, there is no tube train in Walford - there's no escape

If Redmond takes over EE, it will be a load of sensational stories and high ratings followed by another worse slump. They need to repair the show from the ground up, not start blowing people up, shooting them etc

All I can say is, let's hope he doesn't get to EE. If he does, it will be much worse. We need realisitc storylines, not sensational ones, and as been said, he would probabally add the filmic effect to the show, and that alone would be enough to make me stop watching. Still we have to remember this is a rumour and might mot be true.

I dunno Hollyoaks and EE are two very different soaps. I thought Brookie was a great soap even up to the point when it was axed, Channel 4 were determined for it to fail as they wanted rid of it, probably to make way for Shattered or Fit Club or whatever reality shite they've replaced it with. EastEnders is an older soap, aimed at an older audience and I think Phil Redmond could do wonders with it. Providing he doesn't go too over the top he could be the best thing to happen to EE in a while. Mal Young was also a fantastic producer on EastEnders so he must hate Berridge for the pigs ear she's made of it lol

The storylines he did in the final days of Brookie included a young boy finding drugs his irresponsible teen uncle left about, he took them and was found unconcious, he showed child abuse, bullying, has done fantastic storylines about drug abuse and addicts. These are the type of issues that EastEnders could do brilliantly but instead seem to focus on building couples up with boring unrealistic storylines only to tear them apart with even sillier sensational affairs, an death after death. The only decent storyline EE have done in the past two years was the Janine prostitution storyline. Even Phil Mitchell's exit was ballsed up and Dirty Den's return, don't get me started on that. Although he seems to have settled in well on his second return.

Couldn't have put it better myself!! How did she manage to get a job in the first place?

Phil Redmond would be GOOD for EastEnders and I would be happy to see somebody of his stature pulling the show out of this rut it is in. If anyone can do it, its Phil.

Only one thing that that guy should not be allowed to do though, change the way the show is filmed. HD looked crap on Brookie and it won't suit EE either!

It wasn't HD with brookie though, it was a simple filmic effect- one of the easiest things to add to a picture.

Yeh no filmnic effect! They already did that with EastEnders and it looked shit! I remember first seeing it and Pat is walking into her kitchen an even my little sister went "it looks weird" lol

They haven't done it with the proper EastEnders, but they have with the spin-offs (except the Frank Butcher one), and they really didn't look right. It definatly wouldn't work on the main show, but if Phil Redmond did join EE (heaven forbid), he has such a love affair with it he would certinally start using it.

Do you think even Phil Redmond can save EE. It needs a large cull of its actors. Maybe they should get the Canadian seal hunters in

People seem to think it was Phil Redmond and Mersey TV that killed Brookside with sensational storylines. It was actually Channel 4 that imposed sensational storylines when their little campaign to get rid of Brookside began (around 1998). I think Channel 4 even brought in a new producer for Brookie in 2000 and shortly after Brookie plummeted in quality - coincidence? When Phil got back in control in 2002 it really improved - the last year had a very good mix of storylines. By that time though it was too late, Brookie was already on deaths door at 16:00 on Saturdays/23:30 on Tuesdays.

Phil Redmond saved Emmerdale from the axe ten years ago. If he went to Eastenders (which could happen given the Mal Young connection) I think it would be much better than the boring depression-fest it is now.

A massive earthquake rocks walford (caused by underground mines collapsing) and the cast are trapped in the queen vic. The only person left on the outside is Dot who popped out for a fag since Alfie decided to make it a no smoking zone. In order to save the vic and all her friends she has to defuse a World war 2 live bomb that has been exposed and has come active in the earthquake. Will she save Walford? How will the emergency services make it in when it is blocked off by fruit and veg from the collapsed stall? How will Pauline cope with the sudden busy surge at the laundrette when the residents need their blood stained garments washed? Will Charlie save Kat from the beer cellar and win back his pride? fell free to carry on....

Guess what in a really inspired storyline EE is to have a guess the father storyline. This time between Ian and Gary over the recently departed Laura's offspring. Who is the daddy, gosh I can hardly wait. Well done the scriptwriters of EE for coming up with a hugely original storyline that should really boost the ratings. Bet Corrie and Emmerdale wish they had thought of something like that

I reckon that there should be a gas explosion a la Brookie then a bomb a la Brookie the a siege a la Brookie then Angies Den on fire again, then the Vic on fire again, then Angies Den on fire again after, then the Slaters house on fire. Really believeable. Maybe the people in EE need to invest in smoke alarms. They should have learned by now. lol

Dot decides to sit, chill and think about how she will go abaght rescuing everyone. She notices the door of the Minute Mart is open. She pops in "Ooooh I say, counter left un-attended, oooh, plenty of fags, ooooh I say, well if they are stupid enough to leave the door unlocked they won't mind if I borrow some faaaaags init" Dot then stays in the Minute Mart for what she thinks is an hour smoking every fag in the place and downing all the booze. She emerges 28 Days Later to see that she is the only person left in the square, well until she finds Wellard and erm Minty hanging around. Minty tells Dot of a killer virus called "rage" spreading around so they decide to make their way to the safest place they can think of ........ Manchester! Before they leave Fiwwl Mitchawwwl turns up with a van full of food supplies, extra petrol and loads of weapons. Extremely realistic.

I don't think Mal Young's ever produced the show has he? I thought he was a BBC suit who oversaw the series' department. You could just as easily point the finger at him for doing nothing while Rome burnt.

Invest in fire alarms!

Personally I think they should really consider knocking down the B&B and building a Firestation!

while they're at it I think they should strongly consider building a Police station somewhere in the square.

He He Like the idea about an earthquake, --all ends with none of the properties safe, a giant retail outlet buys up the remaining properties, and builds a giant mall, (named eastenders) with the biggest department store being Grace Brothers!
