Who "owns" an unused number?
Leggie

I am considering starting a new taxi business and would like to have a memorable landline number for incoming calls. I have a number in mind that I would like and from searching the web it appears not to be in use currently. How can I find which operator owns this number so I can enter discussions around how to get it allocated to me. Thanks John

You could look here to see who it had been allocated to:

Not all possible numbers are available of course.

Thanks for the link.

There is lots of info here that I don't really understand. Can you help unravel it for me?

I'm looking for a number that begins 01252 30****

Thanks if you can

Look at line 11067 in the spreadsheet from link 1 on that webpage (if using Excel - not sure about anything else)

Basically column A (headed SABC) is the STD code (though the lead zero may be stripped off ). Column B contains the first two digits of the number. Column C is the third digit if that is used. The rest should be fairly self explanatory.

So from row 11067, 01252 30 is allocated to Cable & Wireless

Thanks Guys (or indeed Gals?)

As C&W have been NTL and now Virgin Media does this mean my number is now with Virgin do you think? Does anyone know if you can select specific numbers with their phone package or not?

If its still with C&W anyone know any contact numbers.

Thanks again

Cable and Wireless never became NTL. They sold a part of the business to NTL but they are a totally separate entity.

Their website is..
