i want to cook dinner this evening; meatballs, pasta and some nice sauce.

But what is the best way to cook meat balls? i was going to fry but i thought they might get a bit burnt, or just stick then in a pan with the sauce and let them cook slowly- but they might fall apart

Any advice would be great thanks

Brown them off then cook them through gently in the sauce.

Brown them first in a frying pan then put them in the sauce to finish cooking.
If you are making your own, a good tip is to soak a piece of bread with no crust in some milk. Then squish it up and add to your meatball mix. This will make them a lot more tender. Don't overmix though.

I usually brown my meatballs in the oven first. Saves me from cleaning up a greasy mess on my hob.

Once you have rolled your meatballs, just give them a quick dusting in white flour before frying, this helps make a nice brown crust. Quick whizz round the pan until they are browned, then onto some kitchen paper to dry while you get on with the sauce.

yes, i did feel a bit lazy not making them lol

in the end i put them in the oven they cooked so quick, then put them in the pan with the sauce for a few mins, and very nice they were too

then after we had custard doughnuts , once a week treat so its ok - i think

Hi

I thought I would reopen this thread rather than make a new one. I have recently tried making some meatballs for dinner it was rather nice. But I do have one issue when I am browning them off I can not get an all round brownness because they roll around they tend to keep rolling off and so doesn't brown all over.

Is there a method so it browns all over - my mum said to have more oil (basically enough to cover half the meatball and then turn over) but I wondering if this is the best method or if there are others

I wouldn't cover in half oil! (personally).

If you have a griddle pan it always helps them rolling away. But also you dont need to brown every single angle of the edge anyway.
