If they were all voted for by the public we would get a lot of multiple voting and young teen girls voting for certain categories just because they fancy a particular person who happens to be in a certain soap!

No they shouldn't. Not enough people vote in these things as it is and don't represent the entire 25 million or so who probably watch soaps. All the "Shannis" and "Kalfie" ( ) fans would be out in force, and as the above person said, people voting because they fancy a certain person. Oh and the fact that you often get people undeservedly winning the big awards like "Best Actor" because they like the character, which is often missing the point, or simply because of all the people who voted, the majority preferred the soap the person was in over the others...

Shane Richie is the Best Actor, is he? Mark Charnock, Billy Hartman, even Perry Fenwick, were inferior this past year?? Don't make me laugh..

Yes, panels don't always get it right, but they don't have all these ridiculous biases and problems that often don't give out a fair result. Imagine if the public voted for the Oscars...it'd be insane..

Hopefully Corrie will get the big one, soap of the year or whatever they call it!

Corrie Karl for best newcomer (and sexiest male!), Eastenders Janine for best villan, Fred Elliot for comedy award (it might just be me, but every time he speaks I find him hillarious!) and for storyline - Corrie Barlows/Croppers & McDonalds baby selling/affair whats it!

I am not impresssed by the list either. Eastenders should NOT have won best soap IMO!.
