"An iPod has been detected but it could not be indentified"

I recently started getting this message everytime I plug it into iTunes. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes but no luck. I wouldn't mind so much because it still charges my iPod for me, but it's not even syncing my play counts or anything. It's plugged in but not showing up at all.

Have you tired rebooting your iPod? Then opening iTunes then plugging in the iPod. A reboot usually does the trick.
