You may laugh (oh, you did! ), but this sort of thing (being able to adjust the picture closer to the source) is starting to be an issue as we move away from multiple TV inputs. For example, routing your multiple HDMI feeds through your amplifier to a single TV feed. I presume there may be some amps that will allow you to make adjustments for each input, but that would be extra processing in the chain.
