IMO, EE has gone down a slippery slope since the powers that be at the BBC got pi**ed one day and hired Louise Berridge.

Ok, she got rid of the Apeman, but what else has she done apart from make the soap more wooden than the wooden tops.

Who was the last person they sacked as exec producer by the way? I'm sure it was only a couple of years ago and I could'nt understand why because EE was on top form then. If it was Berridge in charge, she quikcly needs to rediscover what she did right in the first place, but I think it's too late so say goodbye to her...

John Yorke was the last Exec Producer and Louise Berridge took over in 2002.

Why didn't he stay on? 2001 and 02 were good ones for Eastenders. Late 2002 it became awful and has never picked up since, it's just mostly got worse..

John Yorke wanted to leave so they then bought in Berridge on a two year deal which is up in september I think.

No it didnt, i think shes done a good job, and when John Yorke was producer, he had some rough patches of bad storylines. So just because eastenders is going through a bad patch at the Moment, doesnt mean you should blame her. Afer all you couldnt do a better job!

And Eastenders has been going through a bad patch since late 2002 - when she started. So we CAN blame her. John Yorke had many highs and kept Enders watchable for the most part. Since Berridge, there's been little to get excited about and a whole lot of crap. It's been dull, laughable and supposed big plots have often been a disaster. It may not be entirely her fault, but you have to put plenty of blame on her.

Sorry, but the 'well you couldn't do a better job' argument always winds me up - no I probably couldn't but then again I'm not employed as an executive producer of a soap, so I don't need to. I don't imagine Louise Berridge could do a better at my job, but as she's not employed as such - she doesn't need to. EE has gone rapidly down hill over the last couple of years, stupid repetative 'plot' lines, ill judged gangsters (has anyone working on that soap ever even met a member of the London 'underworld', or have they all just watched the odd Guy Ritchie film and old episodes of The Sweeney?) badly judged additions to the cast and the writing seems to be without direction, humour, sharpness or written by anyone who has spent anytime living in London never mind the Eastend. As this steady decline seem to date back to her taking over, then I'm afraid, as Executive Producer, the buck pretty much stops at her door.

You critise this fantastic soap so much about everything, yet you still watch it. If you dont like what Louise Berridge is doing with the soap then dont watch it!

Just because eastenders has had bad storylines these last 4 MONTHS, not last 2 years, which you seem to think it has, oh and what a coincidence the person you most hate about eastenders took over then. Louise berridge has been great. You are just looking for things to say about her which arent true so you can critise her and eastenders.

If I don't like what she's doing with the soap don't watch - I don't much anymore, A soap I once loved has gone steadily downhill over the past few years, I catch occasional episode and attempt to watch the omibus regularly, before turning off in sheer boredom after about 20 minutes,.

" - Err, I've never met Louise Berridge in my life and couldn't pick her out of a police line up at gun point, I've got absolutely no axe to grind with her, I've no idea about any other show she's works on either. However, it IS true that the quality of EE has slid dramatically lately and a soap which I watched from day one, adored and never missed has become a pale shadow of its former glory and, to me, practically unwatchable, it's not just a few months, its a decline over a number of years, and sorry, to my mind, the fault for that has to lie with the Exec Producer, who is, as far as I understand it, in overall charge of the quality of programme produced.
I would though be genuinlly (sorry, can't spell )interested to know what you consider so great about EE at the moment.

I was genuinely interested in why you think EE is still so great, but as you can't seem to respond to a post which poses any critical comments about your favourite soap (as it was once mine) without resorting to personal insults, I'll bow out of this conversation now as I really can't be bothered.

I have little to add as Agent Krycek has pretty much said it. But the ridiculous, poor state of the show has been going on for about 18 months - when Berridge came in. It's been mostly below average ever since, poorly set up stories, badly constructed ETC ETC. We can put blame on her as SHE is the exec producer and as such must take a great deal of stick for the situation.

If things don't improve in the next six months or so, I think we can see Berridge out of there. And praise the Lord for THAT...

EastEnders has been very bad lately. I don't know who is employed to do what on EE, nor how long they have been doing it, but I have not really enjoyed this programme since Dennis and Sharon got together.
