They was robbed!”

No, the change in the scoring system happened after the 2002 Olympics I think when one couple in the Pairs won gold when another couple were clearly head and shoulders above the rest and investigations uncovered private deals between the judges whereby one would vote for the other's couple in the pairs and the other would return the favour in the dance.

Lol Ians, just laughing at your unintentional Pun! "heads and shouders above the rest" the rule book states doesn't it that the man can't raise his hands above a certain height?

I'm usually a lurker, but reading this I thought I'd put my two cents in.
I read somewhere that the lift in question wasn't actually illegal. Now I'm definatly not an expert and I can't even remember where I got this from, but I remember reading that the rules banned over-the-shoulder lifts if the man actually lifted the woman into position; and in the lift in question, Chris helping Jayne would have been all but impossible from that angle, so it was all her, which isn't technically illegal.
As I said, I'm no expert, so this could quite easily be complete nonsense. But if it is true, seems to me like they were just stretching the rules like they did with Bolero, but just didn't get away with it this time.

I was very very firmly in the 'they was robbed' camp and before DoI that was my biggest memory of T&D. I loved that routine!

The rules changed for that season so that pros could revert to amateur status and compete, and T&D weren't the only ones to do so, but I can't recall how other ex pros did in the other disciplines, it would be an interesting comparison in response to the possibility that they were harshly judged.

As to the potentially illegal move, I think the same issue came up in 1984 where, during Bolero, Jayne went up over Chris' head, forward and down again whilst he held one foot, I remember reading something that said that the move was not illegal because he did not lift her over his shoulders, he in fact lifted her to a much lower height and her position took her over his head.

Beautiful! I love Jayne's hair like that! Always thought it suited her short.
