At the moment it is now possible to transfer ITV1 HD to an external drive from 10001 presumably because it is non-Freesat.
I wonder if it will be like BBC HD when it launches so a one time archive is possible?

It isn't anywhere yet (apart from the red button version). It's due to start on 2 April on Freesat channel 119 and Sky 178 apparently.

How do I get the ITV test transmissions?

FoxsatHDR, tuned to the non-freesat channels, but I don't know how to tune to channel 10000/10001.

(It's probably due to my age)

5001 to 5385 is the number allocated to the channel, you need to look for a channel named 10000. You should find it at the upper end of the list, possibly at 5385 or higher.

If you press red in list mode and then right you can restrict the list to HD channels

You can also list the channels in alphabetical order by pressing the 'i' button in list mode.

Numerical channels will be at the start. 1-9, A-Z.

I run the .ts file through mtstots but vlc player and zoom player still have difficulty playing the file.

I get straight lines on anything that is moving, rather than a smooth motion.

Does anyone know why this is?

Sounds like you might need to turn deinterlacing on. (I seem to recall 'bob' mode works best.)
