Mika's Boyzone Song Gave It All Away = Show Me Heaven
Unless Mika has already agreed with Maria McKee what her cut will be "his song" is FAR TOO CLOSE .Why did he do this since all songwriters make this occasional mistake of composing something good only to realise it's another songwriter's melody. It was so obvious but to introduce him as a great songwriter and then to perform a cover of Show Me Heaven shows that those in charge have dropped one.
Alicia Keys has just done the same with her New York song duet which sounds like Coldplay's the Scientist when she sings the chorus. Not good enough. |

I agree there is a slight similarity. Lots of songs sound a little similar to others nowadays, it's just a combination of fifty years of collective pop-history consciousness, and the fact there are still only twelve notes to make melodies out of. I really don't believe the majority of songwriters deliberately set out to plagiarise; it's simply that sometimes bits of melody end up evoking old songs. It's not a big deal IMO.
I don't really like Gave It All Away even though I'm a huge Mika fan. It's nothing to do with the Show Me Heaven similarity though, it's just that in my opinion he has written much much better songs than that. But, it kind of worked for Boyzone and the Gately tribute. |

I didnt know the name of the song OR who sang it and wanted to look it up on youtube.
It sounded like it was sung by ronan and I too thought it sounded like "show me heaven" So I googled "Boyzone & show me heaven". I found this forum and now I know the name of the song and have had a lovely time listening to it. I joined this forum JUST to let you know that. 8-) |

I spotted the similarity the first time I heard GIAA, but nobody I knew could hear it - good to know I'm not alone!!
