This explains why a lot of rubbish infects the charts.

I know of some of these 'fans'.
Some of them even use fake identities to promote artists.

There are lots more who are using this.

Paid services in general is very common these days.
It could be paps, media, kids etc.

Was it the one song that did well in the states? If so I'll wait a few years to decide whether he's 'big' or not. Leona Lewis had a hit song over in the states, as far as I know nothing else did amazing, yet to some she is still referred to as someone who has 'made it big' worldwide

This is a bit much...apart from anything else...it's exploiting young girls to benefit others

Taio cruz isn't very big to be in the same sentence of Gaga. He's had a hit in the US but can he carry it on. His album and second single have proved to be commericial failures.

Welcome to modern western society folks. Makes you feel sick doesn't it? And it's not just the music business that uses this sort of nasty stealth advertising. Indeed, DS itself will be awash with these rotten sores in all the different areas of the forums. See if you can spot them around the place.

woah! dont brand them all crap, Lady Gaga is far from crap, she is amazing and is defining this generation.

and being in a class of that age group, i can say that just becos someone says oh this song is good, we dont go and buy it. WE ARENT SHEEP! everyone above the age of 18 seems to have a view that kids just follow everything everyone else does, it isnt true!

"...new acts such as Esmee Denters and Flyleaf"

Flyleaf aren't new!

Kind of surprised at some of the artists that are marketed in this way, I wouldn't have thought their audience really was 12 year old girls.

Can I get some toys for promoting Muse, Ash or Editors, or is this technique confined to crud?

Wow, I'm so shocked! However, but will this actually have an effect?

Surely, if they girls were being paid to BUY the records it would be more useful?

Hmm well Flyleaf, All-American Rejects and Tinchy Stryder struck me as more 'grown-up' artists. Then again, I was around 12-13 when I grew out of pop so maybe not

Considering how much money record labels make from CDs that get sold, I'd say these 12 year old kids are being rewarded VERY cheaply. If they are being rewarded for promoting the label's artists, then they likely, specifically chose people that were too young to realise if they were getting a good deal or not.

They must do this because the music is so crap it can't stand up to retail on it's own.

Exactly my point, I loathe everyone on that list with a passion anyway!
