Anyone watch the pairs tonight?

I did quite enjoy it but overall there was a bit of an anti climax feeling after the Olympics.

Thanks God for Eurosport though. BBC are deigning to show highlights on Saturday 3rd April, a week after the championships have finished.

The Ice Dancing Compulsories were earlier today. The Original Dance is on Thursday & Free Dance on Friday.

Yes, I watched the compulsories, the Kerrs did very well and the pairs short programme had a lot of controversy about the marking.

What is the theme for the Original dance, I didn't see any of the Olympics and I can't remember from the Europeans!

I think it is a folk dance.

Yes it is I remember now the Isralie Couple did a Jewish folk dance, she had dyed her red hair black and I didn't recognise them!

The Kerrs have changed their OD for Worlds, really looking forward to seeing it tomorrow .

Some interesting scoring going on in the pairs SP wasn't there? Chris and Simon certainly seemed to think so anyway. But I know everyone on here likes the Germans though so maybe you won't be that bothered. I like them too actually.

Men's was good earlier, got home from college just in time to catch the last two groups! So pleased Joubert and Jeremy Abbott redeemed themselves after Vancouver. And Daisuke was his usual fierce self. Got a bit worried he'd buckle under the pressure of being the favourite but he was fine. I felt Patrick Chan was maybe a touch overmarked. He does have good footwork and presentation though. And Denis Ten is adorable, I just want to put him in my pocket.

I do love Aliona and Robin, she is such a beautiful ice-skater, so light on the ice. In fact, she's my favourite ice-skater. I would love them to win but feel they are just not good enough at the moment, the Chinese couples are on fire.
The men's short, well the top 6 or so were just brilliant. I don't mind who wins the mens because there is hardly anything between them.

Yeah the Germans do seem slightly off form lately. And it's not as if they've never won the Worlds before so they shouldn't feel too bad about being second really.

I wanted Tong & Pang to win so I'm glad it's worked out for them. I think both their programs are lovely.

Yes, Pang and Tong deserved it overall, 2 beautiful performances although I liked Robin and Aliona's the best. They were gracious in defeat too.

Yes they've gone back to the one where John wears his kilt from a few years back isn't it? Love that one!

I guess they feel it might go down better with the European audience than the country music one they used for Vancouver.

I love Robin and Aliona but thought they were a bit lucky to get the marks they did for their short so seems only right that Pang and Tong won overall. I always liked Dube and Davison but they didn't do very well this time.

The marks were a bit odd all through and I do think (especially having recently skated in a competition using it) that the IJS system needs looking at. It seems to be a system devised by accountants applied to a sport that can't avoid having a large subjective component. It has it's good points but simply can't account for all factors that apply, some of which are fairly indefinable.

If it's supposed to be so objective there shouldn't be such a discrepancy in levels called between competitions but there are and that can make a huge difference in scores.

I've not managed to catch any of the Worlds yet.

Where are they being held and what sort of time are they being shown on telly and on what channels?

I agree, I am shocked that the second Chinese couple finished out of the top 3, they have imo been undermarked.

They are being held in Turin and are only on Eurosport as far as I am aware. They seem to be on in the morning, anytime between 11 and 1.00 and then in the early evening around 6.

Ta Yellow - looks like I can't watch them after all

Are they not doing any highlights at all on the Beeb?

I have checked on the interactive and there is nothing showing up for Thursday or Friday on the Beeb, not sure about the weekend though. Sorry

BBC are doing highlights but not until Easter Saturday

I do feel for those of you who don't have Eurosport.

I loved Robin & Aliona this evening. A shame that they didn't pull it off in the Short programme as well. Chinese deserved to win overall though.

Managed to catch the pairs coverage on Eurosport last night and also Brian Joubert's brilliant performance and saw him being interviewed by Barbara Fusli Polli....anyone remember the "Glaring" incident when she was dropped during their free dance at the 2006 Olympics in Turino?
