This just sums up the originality or lack of when it comes to stuff like this, Cheryl/will.i.am could of at least made an effort to add to it.

(And yes I'm aware will.i.am didnt produce it)

Well I never realised that song was a cover version!! I thought it was a brand new song. The beat sounds very similar to Cheryl's.

almost all of cheryl's songs are effectively "unreleased covers", only a hanful were written for her album. most of them were brought from other writers and producers

Happy Hour was originally recorded by Rihanna, for example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BJeiLShDfw

Cheryl's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsvMezjWIbc

I think some people are getting confused between demos and cover versions - these are just demos.

eta: Its not actually Rihanna singing on Happy Hour is it? Just a session singer.

Then why didnt they add to it? - A demo is a template all was done was a key change and replacing the vocal track, thats what Will.I.am's paid for right? All he had Cheryl do was sing over the demo, completely lazy.

will.i.am didn't have anything to do with this track, it's produced and written by Wayne Wilkins, Steve Kipner and Andre Merritt

First time I've heard Rihanna singing Happy Hour. If it is her. Sounds like it anyway.

Such a shame she didn't put it on Rated R. It suits her much better than Cheryl.

That's what I said earlier but the op seems to have chosen to ignore it as it rubbishes his criticism of will.i.am.

He had nothing to do with this track. He only produced about 4 tracks on Cheryls album.

Edit - I see the op has now added that they were aware he didn't produce it. Lmao

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what a lot of singers do? Just get a load of demos sent to them and record the ones they like. Even Beyonce does it, e.g. heres the demo of If I Were A Boy, its identical to the finished version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLFplqC7qEA

I suppose if the demos good, then theres not much point in changing it just for the sake of it e.g. I love Happy Hour as it is so I'm glad they didn't change it at all (apart from the talking bit in the middle).

Will was the Exec Producer of the album, he could of at least intervened and stamped his trademark on it instead of Wayne having her 'sing' over the demo.

and krys, majority of singers just produce and copy from a demo to try and make it different.

Or maybe I should just get out of the purist mindset, but its completely lazy IMO.

but what if the demo was already good enough?

they aren't going to change it if it's alll ready to go, and given the sales and success of this track (still in the top 40 now) I think it's fair to say it was good enough!
