I've heard a few songs recently with a shout out in the intro- similar to the 'red one' shout outs in Lady GaGa, Sugababes, etc. It can be heard in Jason Derulo's ' In My Head' and JLS' 'Everybody in Love' and they have both had a shout out saying 'J J J J R' or it sounds like it? Can anyone help me out it is irritating me! Just wondering what it was all about and who is it?

Producers have always done this but it is happening a lot now, Akon's is "Convict" and Jermaine Dupri's is "Y'all know what this is"

That is a first in my eyes. DJs, wannabe DJs, mixers etc. commonly shout over new tracks, and rather than look for them, people try to avoid them. I guess this case is a bit different. J.R. Rotem produced at least a couple of those tunes you mentioned as far as I know, so you'll get that J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J J R nonsense.

Yeh a lot of people seemed to think it was JLS too until they heard Replay by Iyaz and Whatcha Say/In my head by Jason Derulo.. They were all produced by JR Rotem who previously has produced Leona Lewis - Better in time, Sean Kingston - Beautiful girls and a few others

Red One also gets a mention by Alexandra Burke in Broken Heels

It was quite common in the 90s.

Some examples... Darkchild in Brandy's "Top Of The World" and Timbaland in Destiny's Child's "Get On The Bus".

Of course, back then R&B music was much more superior to the shit being spouted out these days.

Just Dance by Lady Gaga has one for RedOne.

Up until a month ago I always thought she was exclaiming, "ER, RED WINE!".

Darkchild also has shoutouts at the start of Pussycat Dolls' When I Grow Up and after the 2nd chorus of Lady Gaga's Telephone.

I did think the voice at the beginning of "Everybody In Love" said "JLS". Now I know! I did notice it was "JR" at the start of Jason DeRulo's "In My Head" though I'm not sure how I knew that meant JR Rotem produced it!

Yet another thread on shout outs.

I love it. It doesn't bother me. It bothers me with JR Rotem because when he does it, it sounds like there is something wrong with the song and that's it's going weird. Plus, i don't know why Jason derulo does it in every song. We know who his name is.

I love it when Gaga does it. Red One, Konvict, GaGa. Cherry Cherry Boom Boom. Gaga.

The irony of this trend is that world class producers don't need to be in the foreground, they get recognised...

Remember these lyrics

"Ambition makes you look pretty ugly...
Kicking screaming gucci lil piggy....
NIGEL GODRICCHHHH YEAAAHHHH"

"With the lights out
Its less dangerous
BUTCH VIG MOTHERF*****"

"Where is my mind
Through the water see it swimming, Steve Albini"

Polow Da Pon (or something like that) is the one that goes 1,2,3,4 loudly (in Chris Brown's Forever for example)

Darkchild has quite a few too. Sean Garret always says "Yeahhh, smash on the radio, bet I penned it" (like in Britney's Toy Soldier and one of Chris Brown's)

They usually do it as a tag to their music. Like people have said Darkchild was a popular one in the 90s. Obviously people recognise artists on a track but you wouldn't know the producer unless you looked at the song's credits. I think it is a way of making sure people know who they are and that they get credit (commercially) for their work. I love JR's signature. He seems to be the Darkchild of the 10's.

I hate shout out's it's almost become an advertising tool for artists to say hey look I'm working with so and so. Therefore buy my music!

On 99 Problems by Jay-Z he says

"You're crazy for this one Rick"

Rick Rubin was producer, he also done them great songs with Johnny Cash

Think this is what you lot are on about... maybe

The worst has got to be that dreadful J J J J J R crap.

It's one thing having a name check (particularaly RedOne who gets the artist to say it - i quite like that) but having a whole sound byte just sounds a bit messy.

I like when the artists sing the name of the producer, my favourite shout-out being "RedOne" I always thought it was done with such style like in these songs for example:

Lady Gaga - Just Dance ("Red One, Konvict, Gaga, ooh eh")
Kat Deluna - Run the show ("Red One, lets go")
Enrique Iglesias ft Ciara - Takin back my love ("Red One, Ciaraa, Enriquee..")
Sugababes - About a Girl ("Red One, Sugababes, girls bring the fun of life..""
Alexandra Burke - Broken Heels ("Red One, you know I can do it better than you, I can do it even better in broken heels...")

And many more!

Girls bring the fun of life is not really apart of the shoutout at all. It's apart of the song.

I'm just putting the shout outs in context with the song when it's actually sung. Hence the dots...

Oh ok

One producer called Brian Kennedy does "You officially tuned into a B.K. classic" which i think is one of the most tackiest shout outs i have heard.
