AOL Talk
Hi all
I had a call a couple of days ago from AOL who are my ISP.The woman offered me AOL Talk with free calls at anytime but still paying BT for rental. At the moment im with BT for landline calls and get free evening and weekend calls.Obviously free calls 24/7 sounds great but it sounds too good to be true.IS there any catch i should know about before i take the plunge?Would love to hear any experiences. |

AOL Talk (like Talk Talk, Orange and Sky Talk) uses BT Wholesale's WCLI (Wholesale Calls Line Independent) calls package so is NOT a true Carrier PreSelect (CPS) offering. That means you will not be able to use the 1280 prefix to 'hop back onto BT' to make calls and so will not be able to make the necessary 2 'qualifying calls' per month (6 per quarter if you're billed quarterly) to get free Caller Display and/or basic 1571 and, probably less importantly, you won't be able to make inclusive 0845 and 0870 calls at the weekend even though you should be able to because you will still have BT's Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan as part of your BT line rental. OTOH, if they're offering you AOL Talk Unlimted free of charge, that's a good offer - AOL normally charges £5.47/month for that - 48p/month more than BT's equivalent* (the Unlimited Anytime Plan) which is £4.99/month. I'd suggest you ask AOL to put that offer in writing because, as you say, it does sound too good to be true. * Additionally includes calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. |
