Queries about iTouch

Hi everybody,
at the moment I have an old ipod, purchased 2005, I think it is 4th generation, its one of the chunky white ones. I'm thinking about purchasing an itouch but have a few questions to ask and was hoping somebody may be able to help me.

Firstly, if I purchase an itouch would I have to install the new software which would come with it or could I just plug in my new itouch and it would sync up automatically with all my existing music from the software already installed? If I do have to install new software how would I go about transferring my existing music from the old software to the itouch?

Secondly, this relates to getting on the internet with an itouch, I have a 7 year old laptop which doesn't have wifi and never moves from it's location. Would I be able to connect to the internet with my new itouch with the existing set-up of my laptop, or would this not be possible, or would I have to alter the set-up of my laptop in some way?

Hoping someone can assist me in some way,
Many thanks in advance

like when syncing the ipod, you'll need itunes on your computer to transfer over music. thats the only software that you'll need to install on your PC. itunes manages all the data transfers in and out of the touch.

if you dont have the original MP3s available on your PC to transfer over to the itouch, you'll first need to copy this off your old ipod onto the pc then transfer it down to the itouch. if the music is already part of the itunes library on your PC, and its an up to date version of itunes, then it should sync. the music when you first connect it via the USB cable to the computer

you'll only be able to connect to the internet if you have your modem attached to a wireless router. itouchs only have wireless access to the internet.
