As for the milking thing. He might do that a little, but I also agree that it's his safety blanket. It's easier to cope with the stress of having to perform and train with something you can aim for. Some aim for the trophy (I suspect Hayley was doing that, nothing wrong, I must add), some aim to please their loved ones who supported them unconditionally, others aim only to boost their exposure (so perhaps didn't put in as much effort, because it's the exposure that counts, not how far you go in the competition) etc.

It's unnerving having to see yourself being torn apart by Jason's comments week after week, and though still lacking, I can see Gary's trying to please Jason on the performance side of things.

Ironically, I could see Jason clapping enthusiastically after Gary's Bolero. When Robin seemed to focus on the negative thing about Gary's performance, you could also fleetingly see Jason's body language seemingly disagreeing with it.

I guess, it would have helped if the producers let more judges comment on the Bolero performance, not just the head-judge. Then Jason might actually say something positive about Gary at last, thus avoiding the completely understandable snub Gary's shown when Jason tried to shake his hands.

What a great summing up post! I voted for Gary and Maria through most of the series, not because of his delightful daughter, but because he skated better than anyone else! His bolero routine was really lovely and full of emotion! I didnt notice Jason's reaction, as you say, what a shame they didnt go to him to let bygones be bygones!
