My mum used to make a variation of faggots when I was young (and I made them aswell many moons ago), but for the life of me I cannot remember the recipe.

It contained liver, sage, oats and onion, but no other kind of offal.

My dear other half has returned from the deli with 2 faggots - I have no idea what to do with them as there are no cooking instructions! Apologies for a silly question but as a veggie I have no idea if I roast, fry, grill or whatever.

Please help!
Make a nice thick smooth gravy and cover them with it in a small roasting tin or similar 30 mins in the oven covered Gas no 8 Don't eat the caul/skin unless you want to try

I don't know what region, if any, is associated with faggots, but when I was sharing digs at college one of my flatmates used to bring a bag of 'proper faggots' back when he visited his home in Aylesbury...............

So I always though faggots were from Aylesbury............

They were butchers ones, pretty good if I remember, sliced and fried

I've tried the mass produced ones that come in gravy but they were horrible

I used to post on a food forum.
They'd automatically delete the word.
Sad.

I love the Brains frozen faggots. 6 in a pack frozen. Cooked and then poured over oven chips. Heaven.
I don't check the ingredients though.

Nor me. Might be one of those North/South things, or just 'Brain's Faggots' putting me off the idea.

But I do kinda like haggis.. So for traditionalists, what's the difference? From the old posts, sounds like they're sort of mini-haggis? A bit like lamb vs mutton, and sold by Black Country poachers?

I had to check out this thread to see what faggots are...

Never heard of them before.

Thanks, but no thanks! You can have my share!

How come this faggots thread has not been locked up when my one from early last year was, despite being innocent! The only time I have had a thread discussion curtailed.

I had some Mr Brain's faggots for tea tonight with mashed potato and cut green beans. Gorgeous.

As the post you replied to was made six years ago, I'm afraid those faggots would be a bit past their best-before date.

Google for the recipes Good luck
The poster was talking about her mother's recipe. I'm guessing it wouldn't have been on the internet.

Haggis tends to be sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs), onion, oatmeal, suet and spices sealed in sheeps stomach.

Faggots (Black Country ones) are pig's pluck (heart and liver) with minced pork / belly meat, maybe a few herbs wrapped in pigs caul.

I like both but haggis tends to have a larger range of flavours due to the extra ingredients whereas faghoys are more meaty.
