Its a great show isn't it . It's good to see that there is a substantial digital audience for foreign language programming especially on a Saturday night. Let's hope there are more of them in the future.

I like Swedish Wallander, it's very different from the British adaptation but still enjoyable although a lot of the episodes are original works rather than based on the books.

Wonder of BBC Four will consider airing other foreign crime dramas.

I think the BBC is fast becoming the default channel because of the wealth of its older-skewing hits and dramas across the week.

This week, I've enjoyed stunning drama, the only British drama that could ever compete in the US: Ashes to Ashesand Doctor Who.

ITV just can't compete anymore at all in that sense, and its budget is now extremely tight when it comes to drama.

Though, it really ought to start taking a few more risks again with drama and comedy.

Benidorm and TV Burp are the UK's best two comedies at the moment, in audience and in appreciation...both young(ish) skewing.

The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and I'm a Celeb... are among the UK's best ratings pullers, and are most watched reality shows by some distance.

Monday Night Thrillers is still an extremely strong brand, which regularly attracted up to and over 7 million viewers last year...

Doc Martin is still officially Britain's most watched drama series...

Emmerdale and Coronation Street continue to pull big audiences if given consistent scheduling...like its Monday editions...

Take Me Out is the most exciting new gameshow in the UK, and a cult hit at the same time...

So as platforms go, ITV's is not bad at all considering all of its flops this year...

However, no favours are being given to the broadcaster's reputation by slotting these very cheap reality shows on Friday evenings, which will lead to really, really small audiences...

Look how these tactics have perhaps destroyed Tuesday's forever! So, schedule the drama repeats on Friday's, because they regularly pull 4m+, even in the summer...

They may well do if they stand a chance of pulling those kinds of numbers. 421,000 is very impressive and far beyond what some higher profile US imports - for instance, Mad Men - were getting on the channel.

BBC Four did air Series 2 of a French crime drama, Spiral - which was very well recieved - last year. There's a third series airing in France this year, so you could see that coming to the UK sometime soon.

They had a spate of them before showing the (rest of the) first series of Wallander:

Maigret (French) - 2 or 3 episodes, very good - but a bit "staged"
Inspector Montalbano (Italian) - 2 or 3 episodes, bit of a sleeper hit with me, took some getting used to but I loved it by the end of the short run!

Wallander although it's in Swedish and has subtitles is easier to get into than Mad Men which requires you to have seen previous series which is not good for casual viewers.

Inspector Montalbano would make a good series if they adapted like they did with Wallander but I think Aureilo Zen kills any chance of that happening.

When these overnights first came out DS reported different (and lower) for Britain's Got Talent and The Prisoner (a lot more lower for the latter) suggesting they had removed bits for both.

However, while they did remove the first 5 minutes for The Prisoner, they did not remove anything for Britain's Got Talent - as Media Guardian also have 10.3m for Britain's Got Talent.

The 15-minute breakdown also suggests 10.3m for Britain's Got Talent. Media Guardian report...

19:00- The Whole 19 Yards: 4.26m (21.7%)
20:00- Britain's Got Talent: 10.25m (44.8%)
21:00- The Prisoner: 2.03m (9.2%)

I have a feeling the original overnights include HD, which makes for interesting reading as it suggests:

- approx. 250,000 (0.9%) watched Britain's Got Talent in HD.
- approx. 100,000 watched The Whole 19 Yards (0.4%) and The Prisoner (0.3%) in HD.

ABC:
7pm - America's Funniest Home Videos - 7.40m (1.7)
9pm - Desperate Housewives - 11.13m (3.3)
10pm - Brothers & Sisters - 8.41m (2.4)

CBS:
7pm - 60 Minutes - 11.20m (1.6)
8pm - The Amazing Race - 10.64m (3.1)
9pm - FILM - 7.11m (1.2)

FOX:
8pm - The Simpsons - 5.94m (2.8)
9.30pm - American Dad - 5.31m (2.7)

NBC:
8pm - Minute to Win It - 5.58m (1.8)
9pm - Celebrity Apprentice - 7.85m (3.0)

An unusual night... nothing hit a record low! Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters both recovered slightly from last weeks record lows, Celebrity Apprentice was up 20%. 60 Minutes was actually the most watched show on TV but also the lowest rated original broadcast among adults 18-49.

With no football, CBS now left trying to fill gaps with movies, FOX airing repeats of the Cleveland Show and Family Guy and ABC setting new lows every other week, Sunday has become a bit dull recently.

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/04/26...ay-night/49610

The upfronts are 3 weeks today. NBC go first on Monday morning with FOX in the afternoon, ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and The CW on Thursday.

That might well be the case actually, which is interesting.
It does that ITV HD was due to begin Barb reporting last Monday on the Attentional website (see below):

CBS have a deal with Hallmark so they show these movies but the results are mixed with some doing well and others not so well, they have the Jesse Stone films which do well viewer wise but skew ancient. It's CBS' only day that has the fewest repeats because of football overruns, award ceremonies and TV Movies.

The Animation block on FOX is successful but Family Guy does seem to have more repeats compared to the rest of the lineup but it does take longer to produce episodes.

Nice to see Housewives and B&S recovering from last week. I am hoping for Housewives to get around 14 million viewers when season finale comes. I really hope ABC has learned from their mistakes that they made, in terms of Sunday scheduling this year.

Not surprised that the TV movie flopped last night. Although I am surprised that 60 minutes was the Sunday's most watched show. That being said, I agree with you on Sunday's ratings being dull. Then again, apart from NCIS, none of the scripted dramas now are hitting over 15 million mark. The Mentalist might be the closest to it. How Minute to Win It got second season is beyond me. Also, what happened to Cold Case?

An unusual night of good and bad. ITV1 had a very good night, Mears improved on last week's low and Foyle's War did very well as well.

Strange to say Mears improved, yet Over the Rainbow recorded a series high! Very good rating for Over the Rainbow considering its not exactly been consistent. Poor for Antiques Roadshow not quite sure what happened there. Five Daughters started well, I think it might just edge out Lumley tonight.

I'm also pretty sure that is Match of the Day 2's highest overnight rating ever.

I agree - amazed they didn't pull it when they axed More4 News, or at least move it to 11pm where that sort of show would probably sit more comfortably.

It may be lazy but sticking Come Dine with Me repeats in the slot which would bring in 500-800,000 doesn't just boost the slot, but gives them a better platform for their 9pm output too.

Wonder how Bremner, Bird and Fortune will do on More4 next week.

Seems to have been a few problems with delays since things were tweaked at New Year.

I guess it's because it's critically acclaimed plus I imagine it was much cheaper than More4 News. More4 tried to be a serious rival to BBC Four but unfortunately it has become the CDWM channel. True Stories does okay as does US drama like The Good Wife and Brothers and Sisters but they need to revamp it slightly.

BBC1 did well last night with Countryfile, OTR and Five Daughters. Antiques Roadshow was a bit off the pace, probably as it didn't have a Countryfile lead-in and I'd imagine it has a similar audience to Foyle's War.

Decent improvement for Survival - not going up against Countryfile helped it. But 3.4m is still pretty disappointing for that slot. Strong end to the series for Foyle's War - ITV can't let go off it again, as it's such a consisent 6-7m performer.

Yeah, that must be the case. Also Joanna Lumley's Nile rating was reported differently in the media last week, as some sources must've included HD.
