The BARB figures include timeshifted viewing.

Overnights for Glee, April 19th 1.596m. BARB 2.041.

Apart from News/Sport we don't watch any TV off air in our house. Everything is 'Sky plussed' with series links.

Mike, is ITV1 HD still included in ITV1's official ratings? Because I can't find it anywhere. If so, that's utterly stupid in my view, what's the point of not including it in the overnights, but including it in the officials?

The Guardian have started reporting both.

e.g last Thursday

Griff Rhys Jones ITV1 2.881, ITV HD 35,000.

On here just the ITV1 2.88 were reported.

In which case BARB have split them up, yet not reported ITV1 HD...

ITV1 HD only started reporting on viewing summary this week

channels have to pay to have their top tens listed

either ITV don't want to do this for HD channel or maybe they didn't have programme logs ready in time

.......as we've seen with other channels this year *grumble grumble*

Does that mean the ITV1 2.881m includes the HD 35,000?

If C4 could get them over in June they'll have the Five o'clock Show running, Alan Carr is back and then there is T4 too. Trouble is Glee series 1 will be over by then, so little to promote other than the DVDs etc.

Ideally for C4 they'd find a window in Sept/Oct ahead of series 2, but they need to ensure they have their own chat shows up and running then as bringing them over and letting other channels get the interviews is an opportunity missed.

No. Guardian reported 2.881m + 0.035m = 2.916m.

Whereas BARB today report 2.83m.

Relatively unspectacular Monday night, but there wasn't much of note on offer. The snooker did significantly better than Sunday, and ITV will be moderately pleased with Joanna Lumley.

The Countryfile special did well for BBC One, but a repeat George Gently in primetime was a limp offering.

Just noticed this:

Are they sure? Thats a mad amount of money for a show that pulls well below a million on ITV2. If its an 8 episode series, thats £500,000 an hour.

According to reports last year, the best paid actor on UK TV was Trevor Eve, getting 1m per series of Waking the Dead (ie. at least 8 hours).

It must be wrong. Thats more per hour than many of the biggest US TV stars.

I assume they'll do the 'normal' C4 thing and schedule it for a clear run starting January.

Do we know C4 have the season two rights? I was thinking that this would be be an ideal pick up for Sky1.

ITV should consider showing it on ITV1 with 'first look' on ITV2 straight after, similar to what C4 do with Shameless.

They don't have much to lose and their other drama isn't really up to much.

Really? The Active Channel is really paying to show off their ratings of 14,000 and below?

What's the benefit? If I ran a channel and the ratings were so tiny, I would not want them on display to all and sundry.

On a similar subject, why are the CBS channels not doing better? They are actually pretty neat looking channels with a lot of great content. Do people not know they are there, too far down the EPG or something?

They need viewing figures to see how many people are actually watching their programmes in order to calculate how much they can charge for advertising, what needs to be axed etc.

Believe it or not, BARB figures are not primary there for our entertainment.

I think it would be pretty foolish for E4 to hold it back just for the sake of it when it's built up so much momentum. I think the plan in the US is to air it in two blocks of 13 episodes, so they'll have 13 for the autumn (surely a more lucrative time to cash in on advertising) then 13 for the spring - they could even get away with doing a Big Bang Theory and just repeat the first 13 episodes while waiting for the new ones.

No confirmation on the rights, but usually any initial deal is for two series, but having been burnt before I would hope C4 have secured a lengthier deal before Murdoch's vultures come in. However, we all know in this thread that TV execs seem to rarely learn from their mistakes.

No, it would still have 2-3 weeks left if they came over straight from NYC.

FOX air the final episode on 8th June.

Presumably they can still obtain the numbers without having their top 10s on display. Surely it is not a prerequisite.

it does have its benefits, whilst 14k is low it's still higher than some of the myriad of channels that clog up EPGs

also why pay the money to find out what your top tens are and then not show it. Advertisers may need convincing if channels suddenly started saying that their programmes had figures of 500k without any proof

What is pleasing for me is that Castle got its second weekly rise in the ratings. What is kind of sad it is stuck away on an minority channel - Alibi. I could see it getting pretty decent figures on a more mainstream channel.

That's true. Thanks for the info.

Yeah I agree. I'm surprised Five didn't target this one.

ITV will probably wait until ITV1 HD becomes more established, nothing rates particulary that well on it atm.

Not many HD channels have really taken off yet. I don't think people actually understand 'HD' and think as long as you've got a HD TV and a HD box then you are automatically watching HD.

Quote:
“UK viewers watched an average of four hours and 18 minutes a day in the first three months of the year, up from three hours and 46 minutes in the same period last year, according to figures from the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board.

That amounts to the equivalent of a day and a quarter of every week spent in front of the TV screen.

The figures, which only include shows viewed as they were broadcast or recordings watched - without fast-forwarding - within seven days, show almost two-thirds of those hours - 62% - were spent watching commercial channels.

And the number of advertisements watched on average each day was up from 45 to 48.”
