To be fair most their drama and sport output is now HD, but of course little benefit to ITV in rushing these things through. Britain's Got Talent is down as being in HD this year, so I wonder if The X Factor will follow.

I imagine The X Factor will be in HD too. Same production team isn't it? No reason for it not to be.

But the whole night is just so weak considering that Thursdays were historically the biggest night of the week. Grey's is now slipping back among ABC's scripted programming. In final ratings, Castle came out at a 3.5 on Monday (the original 3.7 included some DWTS overrun). Modern Family had a 3.9 on Wednesday, Lost came out at 4.1 on Tuesday and the last episode of Desperate Housewives had a 3.5.”

It may be possible that low ratings towards the end of this week are due to a) hot weather across most of America (apparantly) and b) it's Easter (weak excuse IMO).

Yeah, I had a look on the Futon Critic site too - and it all looked pretty run of the mill stuff.

ABC have had success with the Wednesday comedy night, but the drama has sunk badly this season. They really, really need new drama hits next year because I don't know how long the shows on which they rely at the moment will last. The first thing they need to do, IMO, is shift Private Practice and Brothers and Sisters from their cushy slots. They need to use the Greys and DH lead-ins on new shows before its too late. They could do worse than shifting Castle too (which looks like it could hold its own now) and using that DWTS inheritance to launch stuff.

To be fair, I don't think any network is overflowing with growing hits atm. Fox still have House but the rest of their drama is so-so. CBS are OK too, but the CSI's are in serious decline. And NBC... well, we all know about NBC...

Oh dear, I can see a fair few people switching The Door off.

There's a half decent show in there somewhere but so far the editing has been dreadful as the constant cutting away to interviews is killing any potential tension. I'm starting to think my 3.7m prediction earlier was a little generous...

The interviews almost make the actual footage seem like sport highlights. It's just stupid. It would have been so good without them, the zelebrities, the stupid American but not actually American voiceover and, of course, Amanda Holden.

The bit that makes me laugh is Chris Tarrant keep saying ( cue scary sinister voice) "The Doooooooooooorr"

Both Ashes to Ashes and The Door are trending on Twitter in the UK, Ashes to Ashes top with The Door in 3rd. Embarrassing Bodies, which is normally top, is not in the top 10.

Of course, I repeat: Twitter is not a scientific way of measuring ratings, but as always, its worth noting.

There are so many things wrong with The Door but I have enjoyed it. But, to think Amanda Holden was a credible actress a mere 3 years ago and now is just a piss poor TV host.

Was made to watch The Door. I cringed a lot at Amanda Holden, Chris Tarrant's bizarre facial expressions and that voiceover.

I suppose the challenges themselves weren't too bad but every other aspect was poorly thought through.

Is this based on a US format or are they just trying to sell the format to the US?

The A2A comeback episode was terrific imo. The fact that its buiding towards the end game some wanted way back with series 1 of LOM just adds that bit more intrigue to the dialogue.
The "answer" will be one of tv's most memorable plotline events imo.

Ashes to Ashes was fantastic tonight, hopefully it gets 6m+ like the previous two season openers. Watching The Door right now and the challenges are better than I expected, but the hosts are poor and I agree with others that it's a bit too 'Americanized'. They probably have an eye on selling the format to America as it's an ITV Studios production. ITV have promoted it a lot more than I thought they would, so I actually think it'll rate quite well and become their most watched Friday 9pm show of the year so far at 4-5m.

Having watched the whole of The Door I thought it improved a bit as it went along and it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be overall. Amanda Holden was as appalling as ever, but Tarrant wasn't very good either and I normally don't mind him. The way he kept saying 'the door' in that bizarre voice was cringeworthy. I initially found the voiceover annoying but grew to actually qiute like it. The challenges were good, and clearly some money has been spent on it (particularly on tomorrow's show judging by the trailer shown at the end), although the cutting away to interviews was annoying. This seemed to happen less during the challenges as the show went on, though. I'm sticking at my earlier prediction of 3.7m (well, 3.5-4m).

Going to watch Ashes to Ashes now, and after reading a few of the opinions on here I've got very high hopes for it (both quality and ratings-wise).

Regardless of how The Door turned out, I can see the rating being less then 3m. Ashes to Ashes will possibly have twice as many viewers.

Shocking how people seem surprised The Door would be rubbish. It was a certainty the moment it was commissioned.

I must have slept through 2007 then!

Everything seemed to be hit yesterday both in the UK and the US.

As for tonight - entertainment shows on Friday's do notwork so I expect The Door to flop, which'll drag down Saturday's ratings too as people won't bother to tune in for part 2 of 2.

I'm surprised so many here actually decided to watch The Door. Should I expect half-decent ratings tomorrow?

Worth baring in mind, anyone who recorded one of the shows will be included in the overnight ratings so long as they watched their recording before midnight. (have a feeling the limit might be 2am actually)

I think The Door will manage 4 - 4.5 million and Ashes 6 - 6.5 million. The last 2 Ashes season openers were both 7.0m in the overnights but not on a Friday night.

I didn't see The Door but I can see it attracting a different audience to Ashes to Ashes and doing pretty well.

I reckon 6m for The Door and around 6m overnight for Ashes to Ashes, rising to 7m in the officials.

Yesterday's 9pm BBC1/ITV1 overnights:

Ashes to Ashes: 5.7m (22.7%)
* includes HD
The Door: 3.6m (14.3%)

Ashes to Ashes a good bit down from the last two season openers which had 7m, but it easily won its slot against The Door.

Disappointing for Ashes to Ashes. The Door did OK, but I expect a drop tonight.

Not the best for A2A with regard to the other 2 openers, but it should boost Fridays quite a bit. Expect it to settle between 5-5.5m.

Decent enough for The Door, compared to ITV and Amanda Holden's () other 'entertainment' offerings. But I just don't think ITV or BBC should be scheduling entertainment shows on a Friday night when they just aren't drawing the viewers. I think if The Door increases at all tonight then it should be recomissioned where it could do well in a proper Saturday slot.

But I reckon the format needs tweeking a bit with the celebrities all basically ITV rejects and the presenters pretty much the same.

Hello

Sorry if it's been posted elsewhere - the ratings thread is just a little too long to read all

Does anyone know if the overnights include ratings from the main channel AND HD versions/ timeshifts of that channel? I notice that Ashes to Ashes included HD - is this the norm now?

By the way, I watched A2A on HD and loved it!

Thanks!
