Fair enough. I wasn't too sure whether to count them as one or two. Also there's the issue in a couple of week's time of whether 'BBC News Special' from last Tuesday should displace the current 'BBC News' entries in the chart.

I should say, though, that I forgot to include the Stephen Gately special in that list which got 8.12m. So ITV1 has 19 entries, not 18, in the Top 40.

ITV will probably be hoping that big stories break during BGT week! IIRC they got 6.1m for a News at Ten bulletin last year when a dramatic story broke. Speaking of which, ITV News did seem like it was becoming a stronger brand until the pointless changes in November 2009. The ratings were going up as was the quality, but they seem to have relapsed and once again it is in a dire state at the minute.

What dramatic story was that? I'm sure every NaT trailer that week was BGT/SuBo related.

Really? The whole world stopped because of BGT? Gotta love the journalism standards at ITN.

I seem to recall a helicopter crash but looking on Google I can't find anything . You're probably right and I'm just getting mixed up

It was still the 'and finally' item on the actual bulletin (they didn't go that far) but it was the story they used to keep BGT viewers watching - and it worked, even if it was tacky.

Yeah I think the boost in ratings was due to ITV using BGT stories in the 21:45 News at Ten trailers but not actually showing the stories until later in the programme (I seem to remember it hitting about 6.5m the night that girl broke down on stage).

I wonder what will happen to King of The Hill when The Cleveland Show ends, it has acted as an anchor for KotH, without it I can see the show getting progressively later in the night.

That's what I suspect too.

Mon 31st: 19.00- Emmerdale, 19.30- Corrie, 20.00- Countrywise, 20.30- Britain's Got Talent

Sun 6th: 18.00-22.00- Soccer Aid

That's if ITV don't want to lose any episodes of Emmerdale or Corrie that week. I hope Whole 19 Yards doesn't get that slot, but because it's an 8 part series (with the final episode due for that date) I think it probably will. I'm not sure ITV will bother too much with 22.00 directly after the BGT Results (I think they should), even though it'll be their best lead in of the year, because all the ads will probably be used up by then.”

ITV would probably just reschedule the 'missing' Emmerdale/Corrie anyway so it wouldn't be as though they're missing out. Plus BGT is far more lucrative than Emmerdale/Corrie for advertisers. The live shows could look better if they're all uniformed to have 10 contestants each rather than having 8 in each semi final and 10 in the final.

The list doesn't include the same programme more than once, and HD figures are included when applicable.

22 BBC1 shows in the list, with 18 coming from ITV1. EastEnders obviously still a way ahead of the rest, but I imagine that gap will close in the next few weeks once BGT's figures continue rising.”

I think you have missed out Sport Relief.

Woops, yeah, looks like I missed out the two shows from week ending 21 March (the other being the Stephen Gately special). Sport Relief would be in 15th place with 8.06m. Also that week's Antiques Roadshow has 7.21m (inc. HD), remaining in the same position but with a higher rating than what's been in the list posted.

Agree with the majority of your post, but your point about it being 'their best lead-in of the year' is debatable. BBC1 have already had a 16 million lead-in for a programme this year in the form of EastEnders, and both channels will have similar lead-ins for several World Cup games (in particular England games, the final and maybe other high profile games).

I think BGT's final 5 mins could hold 15m+ (last year it had 18.87m between 21:55-22:00), whereas EE was down to about 10m for its final 5 mins iirc (the direct lead-in for QI). Even taking EE's 16.6m peak into account, I reckon BGT will be able to beat that, though the average will depend on how long ITV drags the show out for.

Also, the audience for the World Cup broadcasts will drop-off significantly once the match is over (especially on ITV!), so I imagine the following programme will 'only' inherit an audience of 5-10m instead of the 15-20m the actual match gets.

That would be the best, and they have confirmed they'll be guest stars performing too. A two-hour show is split into seven parts, so the eight acts per show can perform over the first five parts (1-2-2-2-1), with guest acts and the standard filler in part 6 and the results in part 7.

Gets a bit trickier for the final due to the need to finish by 10pm - we know due to Soccer Aid it's not happening but having it over the weekend is really the only way to make it a bigger event, with the Top 10 on the Saturday (with new material), then say the Top Three revealed, and performing their original audition routine on the Sunday to win.

FOX:

NBC:

Friends With Benefits is another relationship sitcom described as a comedic dissection of the mating habits of today's young adults. It’s likely to be paired with the previously announced “Friends With Benefits” as a block on another night while workplace comedy “Outsourced” will slotshare with 30 Rock.

Outlaw adds to NBC’s drama slate. It’s the legal drama from Conan O’Brien’s company which has also been developed under the titles Garza and Rough Justice. The show follows an ex-supreme court justice who quits the court to start his own legal practice.

The Cape seems bound for Mondays where NBC airs its sci-fi shows. It stars Summer Glau (Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles) in a drama about a former cop framed for a crime he didn't commit who becomes the cape, a masked hero, to clear his name and reunite with his son.

Law & Order: Los Angeles has been ordered for 13 episodes but it is now confirmed that the original series has been cancelled.

NBC’s 2010/11 line-up:

Returning Comedy:
The Office, 30 Rock, Community, Parks & Recreation

New Comedy:
Outsourced, Perfect Couples, Friends with Benefits

Returning Drama:
Law & Order: SVU, Parenthood, Chuck

New Drama:
Love Bites, Harry’s Law*, Law & Order: LA, The Cape, The Event, Undercovers, Chase, Outlaw

Reality:
The Biggest Loser, The Apprentice, Celebrity Apprentice**

* Harry’s Law was formerly titled Kindreds and starts midseason.
** Midseason

NBC have 3 hours of returning drama vs 8 new hours.

There are some common threads in their commissioning. The Event/The Cape/Chuck seem likely to share Mondays from 8-10pm in some way probably with L&O:LA at 10pm. Their relationship comedies will most likely work in a block and be paired with relationship drama, Love Bites and possibly Harry's Law from midseason. Chase presumably gets a 10pm slot on Tuesday or Thursday though I'm not sure where Undercovers would go.

On the day that Chuck was renewed by NBC for a fourth thirteen-episode season, some other good news for UK fans of the show as new domestic broadcast dates are confirmed.

Season 3 will receive its UK premiere via Virgin 1, Freeview channel 20, on Monday 31st May at 9pm. (Repeated Thursday at 8pm)

The quirky spy show, only a modest success on UK multi-channel, averaged around 300,000 viewers per episode for its third season on Tuesday nights last year, peaking at 477,000 viewers towards the end of its run.

In its new Monday night home it will join its fellow NBC counterpart Trauma, the fate of which is still to be announced in the States but UK audiences have taken to so far with the first 9 episodes averaging a solid 332,000 viewers at 10pm.

Surely 2 hours a night is a bit over the top for BGT?

Also, what is the "extra ad break rule"?

Well basically the ad rules were tweaked so compared to last year 90-minutes and 120-minute programmes get an extra ad break.

Now, on the one hand it means extra revenue opportunities, but I'm thinking the extension to 2 hours is best due to them losing 4 minutes off a 90-minute show, and we saw last year how when they added a guest performance into the show they had to cut things out to make room for them.

It could remain 90-minutes for the heats, though IMO they'd definately need to cut down to 7 acts per show - though considering some of the acts that get through who obviously have no chance of winning, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
