BGT just hasn't taken off this year has it?

I suppose it's been overshadowed by the Election, with the red tops focusing on that a lot more than a daily fluffing of Cowell's latest hilarious selection of no-hopers and overnight sensations.

The Election has certainly beaten it in the reality TV ratings so far this year - a peak of 13m watching the climax to The Election Factor on Tuesday night as Gordon was finally evicted and David entered the house as winner, fronted by Davina Dimbleby...

As for the FA Cup - oh dear. Not even a heatwave to come up with this year as an excuse.

I know it probably doesnt make a lot of differece, but last night was confirmation day for loads of 14-15 eyar olds, and that means that those being confirmed and out with amily and friends for parties couldnt watch TV, which is probably why there were less people watching tv,

This time last year, BGT and BB had a problem on that night too. (last year the confirmation weekend was in the middle of June).

BGT is down almost 1m from last week.

Looks like there were fewer people watching TV yesterday, which dented the likes of Over The Rainbow and Britain's Got Talent. OTR's share was even higher than last week's, and BGT's only marginally down (by 0.3%). The next two weeks might be tricky for BGT, what with the Sunday show which will rate unpredictably and the following week going up against Eurovision which traditionally dents it. So far, the auditions are down 7% year-on-year.
It does look like there were fewer people watching yesterday but I found this interesting.

8th May
Britain’s Got Talent: 10.6m (42.9%)
In It To Win It: 4.1m (16.5%)

15th May
Britain's Got Talent: 9.6m (42.8%)
In It To Win It: 4.2m (18.6%)

Compared to last week, BGT shed 1 million viewers but Dale and the Lottery gained 100,000 viewers and 2 share points.

I'm sorry, but what is 'confirmation day'? Never come across that phrase before. (Not sure if its a Scottish, Welsh, Irish thing?)

Presumably it's a Christian thing. I can't imagine many 14/15 years olds doing that it this day and age so I doubt it would have had much of an effect on the ratings!

Doctor Who seems to be on dodgy ground with 5.8m...that's wishy washy being as is supposed to be the BBC's jewel in the crown...5.8m (6.2 with HD) to me seems a really average figure for such a big show...but looking at all the other figures everything seems to be down a bit

The week on week shares are pretty much the same so ITV have nothing to worry about. There were just less people watching TV last night. BGT doesn't seem to be taking of at all this year though, usually it gains and the opening episode is usually one of the lowest rated of the series. I think 2009 was the peak year for Cowell's talent shows. I think the public have started to get bored and no amount of PR, format changes and judges will change that. You can change the aesthetics but the fundamental show is still the same.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Channel 4 have pulled Iron Chef UK from the schedules, two weeks before the series ended. Hour long Come Dine With Me will take the 5pm tomorrow for the next fortnight before The 5 O'Clock Show begins.

Yeah, In It To Win It did well. Perhaps the sort of audience who watch IITWI, are more likely to stay in and watch TV regardless of the weather?

True, though BGT hasn't really changed that much aesthetically - same judges, same sort of auditions stage since series one. They'll probably need to make changes next year to avoid the show going stale and replace Amanda/Piers/both. Also, the talent generally this year just hasn't been up to scratch. I thought last year's wasn't good (well, except for the final) but this year's is definitely worse.

No surprise there. Not only was it rating very poorly at 5pm, but it was having a negative effect on the 6pm hour as well. I just hope Channel 4 don't overschedule Come Dine with Me - viewers can go off things very quickly...

What will happen to the rest of the episodes of Iron Chef? I was just starting to kind of enjoy it- in a it's so bad it's good way

Still prefer Come Dine With Me, anyway.

you just have to look at the schedules on the main TV channels these days to see why people are turning off...it is rubbish..and the people that do watch it are settling for the below par cheap crap!!

Doctor Who's overnights are so inaccurate as to be meaningless. They have been changing from 6.2m to 8m regularly.

Simon is rumoured to be not coming back for the auditions, so that should be a sufficient change because when Louis was on the panel, there was a completely different feel to the show. I agree about talent also- the producers need to invite more than singers, dance troupes and rubbish acts to see the judges. IMO series 2 was the best series because by the semi finals there was a wide range of talent and it actually was a variety show.
