Maybe the BBC should start thinking about running SCD twice or even thrice a year. A co-production with ABC (With Brit and US Celebs) or a EuroSCD (With Brit and Euro Celebs) could even keep ratings up and costs down.

I reckon too much effort was put into Jan & Feb's episodes and no consideration was allowed for the episodes after that.”

I don't think it's that bad. They are going through a changeover of producer which started as early as Jan/Feb behind the scenes. They probably didn't want to start any more big storylines after wrapping up the Archie one until the new producer gets his feet under the table. If his work at Hollyoaks is anything to go by we should soon see EE rise in quality again. Compared to other soaps except perhaps Emmerdale although even that has its boring moments, it looks on stellar form.

Spring/summer slump? Wouldn't really say they're shockingly low tbh compared to other soaps. It has slipped away from Corrie and the shares seem to have slipped a bit tho.

It doesn't help that the timings are so erratic. It never starts at the right time anymore and always ends a good 3/4 mins clear of its scheduled finishing time.

Thrice would be too much, and even twice is pushing it and frankly lazy scheduling - but rather than one 14 week series having two 8-10 week series might make sense - or a shorter summer spin-off (say new celebs paired with former celeb contestants).

Not a good night for ITV then. It must have been in 6th place during the 9pm hour. Thats assuming the match rose during the 9pm hour of course.

1st: BBC1 - Masterchef - 5.04m (20.6%)
2nd: BBC2 - Great Ormond Street - 2.4m (9.8%)
3rd: Four - Heston's Chocolate Factory - 2.38m (9.8%)
4th: Five - CSI - 2.00m (8.2%)
5th: ITV1 - Law & Order rpt - 1.99m (8.2%)
6th: Sky sports2 - Barca v Arsenal: match average - 1.88m (7.9%)

Strong figures for MasterChef. Tonight's final should do very well. I've seen lots of coverage on TV/radio today, even Scott Mills was talking about it on Radio 1 this morning.

Wonder if DS will do a special election ratings section this time round. Am I right in thinking there was daily updates in 2005?

The Boulton Factor was huge last time, regularly beating the BBC News opposition. I can see why Sky brought it back.

I think they've missed a trick in ditching SkyNews.com though, as the web played a big part in the recent U.S. election and I think it will play an increasing role here through the various social networking sites and political blogosphere.

just read the overnights.

I thought the Frost doc performed quite poorly. I always thought it should have been on at 9 oclock though instead of 8.
Mayb ITV didnt want to shift the last L&O rpt. but im sure it would have got bigger figures than 1.99m if it was on at 9.

The Frost documentary got 3.26 million, it was the L&O repeat that had 1.99 million.

yeah sorry thats what i meant - if it had been on at nine it would have been sure to get better figures than what L&O got.

I mean if it can get 3.26 at 8 it would surely hav gt about 4/4.5 at 9 oclock. Or mayb im wrong

Just a pity they've put it in potentially the most horrendous slot possible.

Yeah not too sure about getting rid of SkyNews.com for the month myself but at least it means Martin can feature more regularly across the day. Im intrigued to see how they handle the Unleashed show with Randall and Boulton tonight.

Thanks to D.M.N. for those figures.

I don't think any show could really affect BGT that much, but Doctor Who would be stronger competition, the current timeslot DW is in isn't good seeing as it is a major drama. I think this would be a better schedule:

18:25 The National Lottery: Who Dares Wins
19:15 Doctor Who
20:00 Over The Rainbow
21:10 Casualty

That would be a cool schedule. Although no-one would watch Doctor Who or Britain's Got Talent as they would be out at the nearest shop rushing to put on a lotto ticket, given that BBC1 has drawn the numbers 30 mins before the machines close.

Oh, I see. I didn't know there is a set time that the lottery machines stop. Explains why the BBC put those god awful lottery quizzes on so late in primetime.

There's not a lot they can do now, to be fair. They were always pretty screwed from the moment they decided to cram OTR into the spring schedule.

I was convinced that they would have left OTR for summer and run:

6.00pm Total Wipeout
7.00pm Doctor Who
7.45pm Who Dares Wins
8.35pm Comedy repeat, Live at the Apollo. etc.
9.05pm Casualty

But alas, the best they can probably do now IMO would perhaps be:

6.05pm Over the Rainbow
7.15pm Doctor Who
7.55pm Who Dares Wins
8.45pm Comedy repeat, Live at the Apollo. etc.
9.15pm Casualty

That being on the basis that after the launch show, BGT is likely to cut to 60 or 75 minutes, probably starting at 7.45 or 8.00.

All purely academic, of course. OTR is where it is now - its going to be slaughtered, but I don't think the BBC will move it. They made their decision and will have to stick to it.

Britain's Got Talent is launching 2000-2130. The Prisoner plays 2130-2230.

Also BBC Two to repeat the Sky News Election debate on the same night after Newsnight on Thursday 22nd April.
