Reasonable for the football - obviously the final 20 minutes or so of talk and averts dented the figure. Mastermind did excellently. Emmerdale seems low. Heads or Tails struggled.

This has probably been answered before, but what's going on with Coronation Street on April 16th. DS Spoilers section says the soap is on at 8pm - against EastEnders? And what's on at 8.30pm if that is the case?

Sorry if this has been answered already.

It's a typo from DS. Corrie's at its normal time that night.

It is on at 8pm on Thursday 15th though, before the debate.

Yeah, I spotted that. Took me a moment to work out why.

Hardly ratings, but

Quote:
“Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth quits soap”

http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/...5875-22172159/

although his already semi retired - if they kill him off which some are speculating ( even specualting that it will happen on the 50th Anniversery show) it could mean bumper ratings - i know that Vera's death was quite high (12.5m - BBC News) so along with the mass hype the aniversary episode/ Jack's Death could rate really well!

Surely more appropriate on the 'Soaps Ratings Thread' in the Soaps section.

After tonight's good results in the UEFA Cup, perhaps this is the first year (out of many) when this competition is superior (ratings-wise) than the Champions League - it's almost perfect.

Liverpool - huge following, always attracting high ratings.
Fulham - giant killers, the fairytale story, will attract lots of neutrals.

So, why was the UEFA Cup not broadcast tonight on ITV1? Yes, it's because the channel has moved the soaps there... [which I still think is terrible].

Then again, if Liverpool do meet Fulham in the final, will it be broadcast on ITV1? And if it does, will it outrate the Champions League? I think the answer to the latter is a near certainty.

No it will be on Five. They have first pick of each round and the final until 2012.

Yes, but can ITV1 air the final as well?

Outnumbered got off to a great start with 5.4m (22.1%). With only 3.5m (14.3%), ITV will be glad that The Bill will no longer be on Thursdays.

Good for Five with the football, I suspect ITV were third in the 9pm hour as a result. Brilliant rating for Outnumbered, really successful 9pm hour for them it seems.

Bar EastEnders, I am at an utter loss as to what happened to all the other soaps, which seen some big drops, most notably Emmerdale and Coronation Street. I can only assume the football dented them, because its not often Coronation Street leads EastEnders by 1 million on a Monday, only for the role to be reversed 3 days later!

Very strong comedy hour for BBC1-I'm surprised at how high it was.

The only reason I can think of for EE being much higher than the other 2 soaps is the football, because that's EE's highest rating of the week and that doesn't often happen on a Thursday. I actually thought though that Emmerdale & Corrie would increase due to no Masterchef competition. It will be interesting to see what happens next week with Corrie at 8pm.

Good stuff for Outnumbered which looks like it finally resembles a hit in ratings terms as well as critical ones. Thats a very decent figure indeed. HIGNFY did well this week too - the election campaign should help it and at least provide plenty of material for satire.

The soaps are all over the place at the moment. On Monday Corrie was flying high and EastEnders looked really low - three days later and the former has shed 2 million viewers and EE is nudging towards the 40% share mark again (great repeat rating too). I guess the football on Five might have had an increasing effect as the night went on but it does still seem pretty obvious that Corrie has never settled properly on Thursdays.

I often view this thread but rarely post, but was compelled to when I noticed that Home and Away is now outrating Hollyoaks

When you combine the FIVER viewing with the FIVE viewing and the E4 and Channel 4...

Wow.

I mean, Hollyoaks was so boring in the second half of 2009, mainly because nothing happened! So I switched to H&A and it appears that a million or so other Hollyoakers grew tired of it too.

Hope that new guy can do better than the woman, who seems to have ruined what was a good little show.

Do the Europa League winners get a place in the Champions League?

Five have exclusive rights to the final, whilst with Five showing a game with a bigger team at the same time, I'm not sure Fulham would do great on ITV1 anyway. It's possible too the rights don't permit it and like some of the BBC stuff they're only secondary rights to broadcast on a digital channel.

The Bill vs CSI next week onwards will be an interesting clash of genre. CSI was down to 2 million this week.

Interesting re: Married Single Other from early 2009.
Quote:
“ MARRIED. SINGLE. OTHER…
Married. Single. Other… concentrates on three couples who are either at the beginning (Clint & Abbey), the middle (Eddie & Issy) or the end (Dickie & Babs) of their relationships.
They are, respectively, Married, Other and about to be Single.
Even the happiest, most long-term couple have their little imbalances, their hidden longings. At any given time one partner or the other is a little more in love or a little more distracted.
Eddie and Issy have been together for 17 years; swans since their 18th birthdays. They have two boys (16 and 12) and they are the most married couple you could ever meet. Except that they are not married. As Eddie says “We don’t believe in marriage, particularly Issy.” Eddie secretly longs to be married to the woman he loves.
The imbalance in the marriage of Babs and Dickie is not so subtle. It’s over and everybody knows it. (Except maybe Dickie). They have great, creative and noisy sex life but nothing else works anymore. Dickie, though childishly cute, is lazy & thoughtless and Babs has had enough.
Clint and Abbey are the slightly better off, slightly too pretty third couple in our group of friends. However, the imbalance in their lives is simple. Abbey is ready for kids and Clint isn’t
We will be casting for a series of read throughs which will take the place of a pilot. However this series is greenlit for March / April next year, and this process we are doing now will find us our leads…we hope! Company: Left Bank Pictures Director: TBC Writer: Peter Souter Prod: Radford Neville Exec Producer: Francis Hopkinson Casting Director: Rachel Freck Shooting period: Shooting early April 2009 for roughly 3 months. Exact dates TBC.
This series will have minimum 2 year options attached to it.

So is a second series a given?

No, a 2 year option is clause in the actors contract that commits them to a second series/year if its recommissioned.

No.

Though they do qualify for the Europa League (if not already qualified).

(Though of course if they qualify for the CL that takes precedence)

A few more ratings from last night:

-The second of C4's Comedy Roasts got 1.387m (7.7%) at 10pm last night, down by around 0.5m on the first Roast on Wednesday.
-Get Carter got 642,000 (5.1%) at 10.15pm on Five.
-Warehouse 13 launched with 472,000 (1.9%) on Virgin 1 at 9pm.
-At the same time meanwhile, The Good Wife got 297,000 (1.2%) on More4, The Parent Trip got 378,700 (1.5%) on ITV2 and A League of Their Own got 337,000 (1.4%) on Sky1. It's worth noting that the latter has been adding around 0.5m per episode via timeshifting. Glenn Martin DDS is still flopping, though, with only 84,000 (0.3%) at 9.30pm.
-At 10pm, Bones on Sky1 beat Brothers and Sisters on More4, with 489,000 (2.7%) versus 257,000 (1.4%).

Thought that may be the case, with the Europa League winners being, you know, "champions" of something.

Great weather at the moment, this may well affect the early evening ratings over the weekend.

Has the lighter evenings made an effect yet on shows such as The One Show and Emmerdale?
