Soap ratings from yesterday:

13:45- Doctors: 1.34m (19.2%)
17:30- Neighbours: 1.18m (9.5%)
18:00- Home and Away: 897k (6%)
18:30- Home and Away (Fiver): 484k (2.9%)
18:30- Hollyoaks: 938k (5.7%) , +1: 137k (0.7%)
19:00- Hollyoaks (E4): 310k (1.6%)
19:00- Neighbours (Fiver): 146k (0.8%)

19:00- Emmerdale: 6.49m (34.5%)
19:30- Coronation Street: 8.11m (39.3%)
20:00- EastEnders: 7.61m (34.4%)
22:00- EastEnders (BBC3): 584k (2.9%)
23:25- Coronation Street (ITV2): 190k (1.8%)

Another poor rating for Hollyoaks; even Home & Away beat it when taking the other showings into account. Also, an underpar rating for EastEnders - looks like the Harry Potter movie dented it a bit.

Seems like Mr. Potter also dented EastEnders, even beaten share wise by Emmerdale!

The weather obviously played a major part in the low ratings last night. 4.9m doesnt look that bad for Ashes To Ashes considering how low the soaps were.

If you compare the fact that A2A was only 1.5m behind Emmerdale and just over 2.5m behind Eastenders it isnt that bad at all. If A2A was that much behind the soaps a couple of months ago it would have got 6m easily.

A2A's share was low as well though... if it had say 4.9m (28%) then you're argument would be valid, but it had 4.9m (21%) which is way down on the usual ~27/28%

Last week's share was only 22%. I think its unfair to compare what it had last series when it was on a much better night.

It says a lot about the 'loyal' A2A audience then... surely if there's less people watching TV, then the share would be higher?

Good night for ITV1. Harry Potter pulled in 4m in some tough slots...slightly embarassing though for ITV that a film repeat on the hottest day of the year has beaten pretty much all of ITV's entertainment attempts in the Friday 9pm slot this year.

Not a good night for BBC1...poor scheduling for A2A and another below par performance for EE, though unsurprising considering the quality currently.

Bit "meh" for Potter. I think ITV1 could have got 4m with a Countrywise repeat, and probably 7.5m with Coronation St at 8.30pm.

I'm not sure a slight boost in the 9pm hour makes the film experiment worthwhile.

I think more the weather will dent Potter. Do people really want to watch 2 1/2 hours of it tonight when it is really warm outside? Too much of a chore...

If people stay in I think they are more likely to go for the BBc1 option of entertainment and light drama.

I cant explain why the share was low but in ratings terms if it was 1.5m off Emmerdale 3 months ago it would have got 7m.

The fact it is sub 5 million is disappointing and I can see why people such as Robbie are annoyed it is airing in that slot at this time of the year. But, with it being the last series the schedulers have obviously decided to give it one of the weaker 9pm slots. Also, I dont see many other slots it could have had an uninterrupted run.

Its quite the opposite here but thats mainly down to the fact there isnt a beach for 50 miles.

People do tend to get carried away on the first hot day of the year though so Doctor Who may be effected tonight more than any future warm day. Personally, you wouldn't see me in shorts until June at the earliest!

No, but Hartnell didn't really get good ratings untill the pepperpots turned up. Episodes 10 and 11 of the series both did 10.4 million.

Nonsense, Your argument about quality would make sense if EE hadnt got 8.7m (39%) + 1m on BBC 3 the night before.

ITV did better between 8-10 last week with the DOOR

It was an ok performance not good.

If you compare their average audience from 20:00 to 22:45 last Friday to the average audience from 20:00 to 22:45 this Friday, I bet it'd be higher...

EDIT: Having just done it, I've got 3.8 million average from 20:00 to 22:45 last Friday* compared to 4.0 million for last night...

* going by 2.0 million for ITV News and 1.5 million for the first 30 minutes of King Kong at an estimate
