He'd turned down ITV's offer last time to stay with the BBC for much less money. It's clearly less to do with the money and more to do with the fact that they're being complete and utter tossers.

but today they delayed marr so they could show the f1, you'd think they could show marr after the main marathon coverage has finished, and then shunt the rest of the programme onto bbc2

Although when he came into ITV Gabby Logan was put in the same position.

Chiles does seem to be cutting his nose off to spite his face. The BBC offer him one night a week off (with no reports of any paycut), so he quits for ITV to host one football match every fortnight or so - though I bet any new quiz format heading their way will end up with Chiles anchoring.

I'd put Gabby as favourite for MOTD2.

I don't think they'll chose Manish, despite him being the BBC's best footy presenter, whilst Dan Walker won't work Sundays. I don't really see why Lineker can't do a two-day week.

Also shakes up the BBC World Cup team as I'd imagine Chiles would have been second in line behind Lineker.

Well thank god you're not ITV1 then.

What about this new programme that Adrian was due to present for the BBC? The Ten Show, was it?

Phil and Holly or Adrian and Christine - you've got to say, it's a close one.

Of course, it all depends how long is left on his ITV contract. Could be years left on it, for all I know.”

There isn't. But Rider turns 60 soon, so he may want to do less anyway. There is plenty of other sport on ITV but mainly on ITV4 (cricket, darts, cycling, motor sport, rugby to name but some).

Well yes, this was supposed to sweeten the pill of losing Fridays on the One Show.
What a complicated and total mess this all is.

Good point, I hadn't considered that.

I reckon the channels will go with:

BBC1: Gary Lineker
BBC3 (final group match): Manish Bhasin
Highlights: Gabby Logan/Manish Bhashin

ITV1: Steve Rider/Jim Rosenthal
ITV4 (final group match): Steve Rider/Jim Rosenthal
Highlights: Adrian Chiles

I don't think they'll get Adrian to front a match...will they?

He'll be their Number 1 man and get the big games.

Not sure about Jim Rosenthal being involved. I think Matt Smith's more likely.

Well he is touted as the "face of football", so can we see him coming on after "Smithy" for a round up for his million quid?
Actually if he is presenting live may cause ructions at ITV in the same way that Evans move is at the BBC.

I think dropping Philip Schofield from his biggest show would end up worse than the BBC dropping Chiles on Fridays.

Plus, Chiles isn't a shiny floor show host. He's just not polished enough. He's better sitting on a couch.

It seems absurd that the BBC have done this. Presumably Jay Hunt has been to the Jeff Zucker school of talent management.

Well close between Phil and Adrian (though Phil better suited to entertainment), but Holly is leagues ahead of Christine in every sense - not just the obvious two!

Remember Christine Bleakley was third choice to present The One Show - and the BBC really must be holding out for Myleene Klass to return as I can't believe they've kept the temp on so long!

Of course he will - whether he's above or below Steve Rider in the pecking order, he'll be there for live matches, with probably Matt Smith on the highlights. Jim Rosenthal was dropped from ITV football coverage a couple of years back and only does the FA draws now (not sure if he's employed by ITV or the FA to do those).

Still no word on who will have the Rugby World Cup next year, but I'd imagine Steve Ryder will stick with ITV for that should they keep the rights.

I keep thinking and posting the same. It doesnt make any sense and its not as though Chiles was being moved to allow new talent to come through. Very very shortsighted and the fallout has affected so many other things.

There's an idea! Someone send her CV to NBC, they'll love her/him! And pay her millions more!

Out of who is there at the moment, I prefer Jim so it's ashame they've dropped him for Steve/Matt/Angus.

Will it have such an impact though? It's not as though ITV Football is firing on all cylinders at the moment!

I think Christine may be better than Holly to be honest. A bit more serious and a bit easier on the ears (admittedly, maybe not the eyes ).

I think the show does need a change to continue, I admit maybe changing the presenters isn't it, but it's one avenue open to them.

I'm not sure how he'll do presenting live games. NMatch of the Day 2 is great because he can be laid back and slightly tongue in cheek, whereas with live games the presentation has to be slightly sharper.

ITV1 have just advertised Lewis. I'm guessing that'll follow on from Foyle's War.

Look folks. ITV's three current football presenters are Steve Rider, Matt Smith and Craig Doyle. Jim Rosenthal wont be involved with the World Cup regardless of whether Adrian Chiles is onboard.

Rider presents the FA Cup/Champions League live matches, Smith presents the CL/FA Cup Highlights and Europa League...what does Doyle do? I've seen him at times but not often this season.

Doyle does highlights.

BTW Chiles is being lined up as the new lead presenter on GMTVs relaunch too. So he will be fully occupied. At £1m he is still cheaper than big Eammon!

Thanks.

So he's being given GMTV and Football from ITV1. Ratings wise he'd be better off with the BBC.

I hope he realises he will be sharing the GMTV sofa with Andrew Castle otherwise there might be trouble ahead!

No, seriously - very good signing by ITV. Chiles is perfect for that programme.
