Both are as bad as each other, and it wont please Jay-Z since he's thoroughly against that sort of thing and she apparently has small ties to him, his song DOA is a fine expression about his hatred towards Pitch correction/Auto-Tune - I hope for her sake (or even safety) she doesn't mime with the BEPs or for the V Festival.

But that French Radio performance was mimed the only time she sang live was that iffy Snow Patrol duet (who tried to defend her, but failed miserably) and that now infamous Live Lounge performance.

But isn't he associated with acts like Rihanna who use that sort of stuff so it's a bit hypercritical isn't it?

He just releases her records, I think.

The only fully live performances she has done (since going solo) are with Snow Patrol, 3 words on her night in show and of course Live Lounge. All others have used "as live" pre-recorded vocals which she mimes to.

They are actually rather good and clever and seem to fool quite a lot of people, the problem is that they are all the same. If you look at the vocals from The X Factor UK, X Factor Denmark, Brits, Children In Need, Cheryl Cole's Night In and the French thing they are all exactly the same, most notably the "Let's go!" bit

I've no doubt her performances in Norway, Netherlands and Germany next week will be the same

The sports relief performance was SO clever! nearly everyone thought she was singing live!

Rihanna sings live though, doesn't mime like ''the nation's sweetheart''.

The Brits performance and Danish x factor were a live tuner. Most of the rest have been live or at least partly live.

I'd like to know, do people on here actually know how hard singing is and that it's not simply a matter of wether you can or not? That there is varying degrees in technical ability and everything from the temp of the room to whether somebody walks passed you with perfume on can affect it?

Or also that often the act has very little say in when they can and cannot be live?

The girl can't put a foot right, she sang live on Radio One last week and she still got attacked for it, apart from a few flat notes it was lovely.

It's a device/programme used at the sound desk for performances in venues to keep the act in tune. A lot of big acts have it on long tours including Red Hot Chilli Peppers I believe.

For me it's the sheer hypocrisy of her being an X Factor judge. She can't tell people they can't sing as they should all fire back 'well neither can you'

Yes i know its a stupid ole tv show and yes i know they say that she has been through that process so she knows all about it blah blah blah but at the end of the day you have to take advice from someone you can respect and you can't respect her flat out of tune singing voice.

It's not like her songs are marvels in warbling ability. . . If she is so precious about her voice why does she not just demand they change the room temperature or that no one in the whole building wears cologne?

She is just a bit of a con.

Well she can sing, I'm not saying she's amazing by any stretch but she can sing. She has about a 2 and a half octave range from what i've heard (Karen Carpenter had 3 and a half, Mariah has 5). So she's not bad, however if you don't like her voice that's fine.

She'd probably also be a a lot better had she been a solo act and not a back-up singer for 8 years (which is a different technique altogether) as the voice needs times to develope properly, like any muscle.

Singers/vocalists who make demands about room temp etc are usually labelled "dvas", "madams" and the like so most don't bother. However you're right singers should do all they can to ensure they can pull off a comfortable and good live vocal - you can't just go and buy new vocal chords like you can buy guitar strings or clarornet reeds, if they break.

With all due respect but you are extremely gullible.

And go and ask any rock band that, they ALWAYS play live and if a show demands they mime well..just look at what Muse did..

Thanks for this but the explanation doesn't help either. Don't follow soccer and I don't know who Girls Aloud are. But I get the drift. Cheers.

That video of her miming in the French LIVE lounge really had me peeved. She was smirking throughout and not even taking the performance seriously.... she is totally unpassionate about music and ungrateful about where she has gotten today... if she cared she would have sang the song live and done it with a straight face instead of acting like a 12 year old having a go at a sing along.

To be fair if I was able to get away with getting the money she does for miming I'd find it hard not to have a permanent smile on my face

Simon and Louise can't sing but they still have the right to be judges. Cheryl can sing enough to have a career from it. She knows the business and has been in it long enough to know how it works.

Is she a great singer? No. Have I heard worse? Definitely.

She is what she is. Spent many years in a manufactured pop group, and not even doing leading melodies in their songs. I certainly didn't expect her to be a great singer when she 'launched her solo career', and so she isn't, but if people expected more than that from her then they were being unrealistic.

She's played the market, and done it very well. Always looks incredible, dresses very well, conducts herself well in public despite that moron of a husband she has, and comes off as a nice person. As crappy pop-star role-models go, there are plenty of worse options.

At the end of the day, it's not like she's denying it.

Does this not show that what The Elf said is true? Or do you think this was the only occasion that a rock band was asked to mime ?
Here is Mud doing something similar to Muse in 1974.
