I agree Who Me. I don't watch Emmerdale but did catch that particular episode on ITV Player after everyone was talking about it on the thread. A part of me was slightly jealous of Aaron because he more or less had an entire episode dedicated to him where he went through a whole range of emotions whilst also verbalising his fears to Paddy, and by extension, the public.
What we must remember, is that Syed's position is very complex. By comparison, in my opinion, Aaron's position is far less grave. Aaron doesn't have the real fear of losing his faith, his family, his community. Yet, Syed has to battle all these external factors whilst still battling the 'normal' things that a closeted gay man battles. Because of the extra factors in Syed's story, he desperately needs this to convey to the public who are unfarmiliar with that background just how much of a struggle this is. How I would love a moment like that in Emmerdale for Syed. I'm still going to remain optimistic that we may be pleasently surprised and get something similar between him and Mas after the reveal, but it may be wishful thinking. EE have struck gold with Marc. He has the ability to encapsulate everything that Syed is. Thanks for encapsulating my feelings in this. Also, whome: thanks for the pics. Looking at them, it dawns on me that they were taken around Spring and Summer - the best seasons for Chyred and very appropriate too, I think. PS: When is Syed's birthday? Is Christian's on 15th June? |

Wow thread 18 already. How quickly do we get through these now?
I saw back on 17 that someone had read somewhere that Syed stays the night with Christian. Do we know if that's definite? Can't see how that could happen really as how would Syed explain his absence to his family? Would make it easier though for them to give us the next scene then showing one of them in bed and the other in the kitchen or whatever but making it obvious they had been together. Then Syed could do his disappearing act. On another subject, I too wish they had shown more of Syed's angst. It is only down to Marc's brilliant acting and facial expressions that he conveys that he is desperately unhappy. One of my favourite bits that does convey his unhappiness to us and Christian is when Syed is in the Unit working and Christian comes in to get some folders and I just love those two scenes between them and when Christian goes to touch him and he can't bear for him to do so. Does really come across how unhappy he is there, it's just that we need more like this. I rewatched today the last scene between Christian and Syed outside the Vic and it seems so long ago now. I hope we loyal fans never have this long a gap again as it is just ridiculous. It seemed bad enough after the wedding and took Syed and Amira ages to return from their honeymoon but then to go to this fairly soon after is too much. Quote:

I agree Syed's position is more complex and sensitive too for them to handle so they've had more to get across and at times they've been tentative about doing it in order to get the story accepted. I think I would prefer the talk with Mas too (well I want lots, Amira, Zainab Christian too!) but can you imagine an epside mostly just of Mas and Syed. I think we will get Zainab and Mas at some point but I really hope EE don't miss this opportunity for some father/son soul searching and true understanding, maybe even after Christian is beaten up and they have some common ground at last. Although they both have really, they both try and live up to Zainab's expectations of them. Fingers crossed! bib You said it just perfectly. |

Of course we know you don't CC!
Its all just a bit of fun and interesting to see!![]() Quote:
I worry about him too since I read the interview where he says he hardly sleeps cos of the commitments. Really don't want him to over-work himself.
![]() .. In the TV guide interview I think, he said that he's not sleeping, learning lines at the back of cars/taxi's!! But on the plus side, he wouldnt change it!!!!

Has anybody else been thinking that they might leave chryed out of tomorrows bbc press spoilers as a way of keeping the previous weeks events a secret if you know what i mean? Cause if it is masood that catches them at it they won't want people to know. Sorry if that makes no sense.

Part 18
![]() Yes, I love the fact that it's more of a love story now than a gay Muslim story, which is what it was first touted as. I often wonder whether they always intended for the storyline to head this way as didn't Santer say that we would never see more than one kiss? Like Johnny says, the chemistry between him and Marc has surprised a lot of people, including them, so I do wonder whether the love aspect of the story only came into play when it became apparent just how well Johnny and Marc work together and how much sizzling chemistry they have on screen....who knows though! Obviously the Muslim aspect of the storyline is still very important though, and I just wish we had more scenes of Syed struggling with this....his religion is a huge part of who he is, after all. I know a lot of people may find religious stories dull to watch, but I've been really interested in this aspect of the storyline and it's certainly opened my eyes up to a lot of things and I've discovered a lot about the Muslim culture, thanks to this thread and EE. But I love what Johnny has said about the storyline, that it's a story about two people who fall in love under impossible circumstances - awww ![]() Yeah, I deffinitely think it must have been more successful than they had planned, but less contraversial than they had hoped maybe? after all, the more complaints the higher the viewing figures! from the swing interview Marc did when he said they underestimated people's open mindedness which is kind of refreshing to hear. BIB2 I know right! me too. Even if the wedding wasn't 100% accurate, it was still nicely done, and Amira looked absolutely stunning, the whole thing in fact, was beautiful. The parade part where the whole cast were out, was one of the EE highlights of last year for me, and there have been a few. S looking at forums and asking the Immam, shows he is looking for ways to reconcile the two, and he seemed more concerned with Z's love than Allah's really. I'm really interested as to how it will end up, as he does seem to genuinely believe, and not just use it as a way to win his family's respect back (even though he has a few times) which is what I thought at first was where the character was going. |
