But do many people engage in this sort of behaviour while they are at work? That is the issue that a lot of people have a problem with. If this had occured in the privacy of his own home or in his own time, I don't think that many people would actually have been that bothered about it.

He was on a break between scenes. Yes, it's sordid and unpleasant but ultimately makes a mockery of the farce EastEnders has become. As for license payer's money, I'm more concerned about this going to waste on paying the wages of Vicky Fowler, Dennis etc.. who are an appalling bunch of amateurs, rather than a 20 minute web-chat (or however long it was). He was engaging in something that took place between 2 consenting adults and what right does The Daily Star have in slagging him off when their paper is full of 16 year old girls in their underwear.

I'm not a particular fan of Grantham but I do think it's a no-news story. Shock horror - arrogant overpaid soap star surfs the net for totty. Big deal.

To be fair he was doing a lot more than just surfing the internet and some of his work colleagues might think that it is a big deal and may now feel uncomfortable having to work with him. I know that in most places of work if someone was caught engaging in sexual practices while on the works premises, they would probably be sacked on the spot. Whether they were on their break or not.

I predict that before the year is out Den will take the plane to Spain or have another walk along the Canal

He could always say he was in character No, seriously, I don't see it as a sackable offence in this instance. If he had been due on set and didn't turn up then that's a matter for enquiry but somebody minding their own business (albeit in a rather spurious and grotesque way) does not deserve to be sacked. If he had been surfing child porn then yes that's an entirely different issue but he was chatting with someone on a consensual level.

& I couldn't agree more with what he said about fellow cast members, and after all, we do live in a democracy - freedom of speech and all that.

Having read all your comments with interest, i must agree with the person who said that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable in the work place.
There may be people who have had the crafty sexual encounter at work in real life
but unless you have your own private office with internet connection and webcam, how many of us have masturbated with a stranger in the middle of their work shift?

Sack him today

He must have serious problems with his marriage - what sort of doormat is his wife to put up with it although personally I know of someone who did the same but with a woman in Amsterdam (say no more) but his wife DOESN'T know and I do - I can't look the guy in the face anymore - it's the uncomfortable thing and I think it would be the same for the other cast members - he can't undo what he's done and he's NOT IRREPLACEABLE!

Im only talking about the furore thats erupted over this whole Grantham thing in the tabloids - I think it stinks, frankly. I saw another 'revelation' in The Sun today: A 41 year old woman told how she'd had internet contact with him, and that he was a "dirty old man" who did "disgusting things". The article finished saying that she cut off contact with him after six months.

SIX MONTHS??! Can't have disgusted her too much then can it? And what was she doing on sites like that? Couldn't be that she's just as randy as he is and now she's seen a chance to make a bob or two, can it?”

My thoughts too. Its interesting that in all of these revelations the women involved are portrayed as "innocent victims" of Grantham's lusts but surely they must have logged onto the relevant websites themselves in order to make contact with him in the first place. And what exactly were they doing in front of their webcams while he was flogging a dead horse in front of his? I bet it wasn't knitting...

And as for the fuss about spending licence payers money by using BBC phone lines to connect to the web, surely the BBC will have a corporate flat rate for internet connection so its cost them no extra.

I bet as soon as leslie got out his eastbender in front of the webcam the woman involved had pound signs in her eyes at the prospect of selling her story!!!

I've been cringing for the last few weeks when he's on screen. The worst was his 'story' about the good old days he told at Mark's funeral, how Angie made him go out in the square and play footie with the kids. I don't know who lost the will to live first, him or me.

I was looking forward to his return, just proves something's are best in the past. ”

Even Tina Baker has been under the Thought Police cosh over there then! They do seem very jumpy about it on the bbc boards, fingers poised to expunge any mention of Dirty Den's indulgences.

I thought his return was a good thing too, initially. Scripts were a bit disappointing, but I enjoyed watching him. But after his break in panto over xmas he began to seem totally shagged out (now we know why ). It isn't internet sex which is his problem, it's lack of talent and commitment his paid job.
