iTouch - worth getting now or better waiting?
ShaunIOW

I'm tempted to get a 32Gb iTouch to have a play with, but with Apple updating yearly is it worth buying now or would I be better off waiting? Have any updates been announced yet to see if it's something I'd want?

Cheers

It won't be known what to expect from the 4G touch until the September unveiling date draws closer; there's usually a leak a few days before detailing what will be unveiled.

In the weeks leading up to the event, there's many fakes but some of the products shown are the real deal.

I'd just get it now, wouldn't wait until September if I wanted one now. In all likely hood the new touch will be faster and include a camera this time around. Not a lot else they can add to it, unless something innovative is added to the new iPhone in June - the features that can be put on the touch usually trickle down the line.

might not change, sometimes only the highest model is the new one.

The iPhone is due around 22nd June, the iTouch 4G is likely not to arrive until Sep or Oct but it may be worth waiting until June to see what improved hardware features the 4th iPhone has as it will probably make its way into the iTouch as well later.

The most likely new feature of both the iPhone and iTouch is a higher resolution screen, with 960x640 (double in both dimensions compared to the current 480x320) being a possibility.

Whilst there may well be a lower spec cheap iTouch model included in the 4th gen range, I would expect that lowest spec model in the autumn would not be the existing 2nd gen hardware 8GB version, but a 3rd gen model with at least 16GB of storage (flash memory prices are constantly falling, as is the other hardware).
