you mention your tv has dolby pro logic, which isnt the same as dolby digital or dts. Have you a compatible amp? You will need either an optical or coaxal digital cable from your dvd player to amp. Dolby pro logic is a simple surround sound method that is encoded into a stereo soundtrack. Dolby digital is true 5.1 channels, Dts is the same but has a higher bit rate , so is considered slightly higher quality.

Yep, only top end DVD players will decode DTS internally. For the rest, you have to connect the DVD via a digital interconnect to an external AV amplifier that can decode the DTS signal.

All DVD players can downmix Dolby Digital soundtracks down to either stereo or Dolby pro-logic.

In a nutshell, it looks like you are feeding the DTS soundtrack to the TV via a scart lead and expecting it to decode it. Sorry, but it wont. You need an amp to process the sound as described in earlier replies, and the TV to show the picture.

You can get away with feeding the Dolby Digital soundtrack to the TV as it will present you with a pro-logic sound.

I have a Kenwood amp but it means more wires all over the room and I can do without that. The TV has it's own surround amp so I will stick with that and dolby digital. Here are the specs of the TV.

does the kenwood amp have DTS and Dolby Digital? in which case you have a dvd player, and a surround amp which supports DTS and DD, but can't be bothered to connect the two because of the wires and hassle? are you mad? trust us - it'll be worth it!

That TV will not decode the DTS soundtrack. You will need to connect the DVD player to an external surround sound amplifier by either the co-axial or optical connectors in order to hear the DTS soundtrack.

The probable reason you are not hearing anything on the TV is because you have selected DTS on the DVD player?? Is so, the sound will be outputted through the co-axial or optical channels and not through the scart cable.
I suggest you swtich of DTS on the DVD player until you get an amplifier
