I have been through about four named brands of mp3 playeres

Ipod mini - Battery died after a year

Ipod Video - Lasted about two years then it only played music out of one head phone

Ipod Classic - Had some form of the xbox's Red ring's of death

Zune - Plays but will freeze up on me.

I'm asking for anybody to recommend ANY mp3 player that is good and will last. Preferably one that will allow me a picture or two like the Zune does.

I have a Zune and an Ipod Nano. Both are fantastic.

I have a Zune 30 and it has not frozen. Maybe yours is damaged in some way or it needs an update?

Mobiles play video and show photos. I use my LG viewty to play music and videos from youtube.

This way I have plenty of choice.

Sony Walkmans are pretty reliable:

I would rather have a creative than an ipod any day, had three and they've all been great.

I currently have a Sandisk, which has been brilliant. I had a Creative before that and it was lovely and reliable too.

I've only had apple mp3 players. I had an ipod mimi which was still working when I replaced it with an Ipod nano 3 and a half years later. I gave it away to someone, not sure if it still works now but it lasted 3 and 1/2 years at least.

Ipod nano is about 2 and a half years old and still works.

The ipod classic is about 2 years old and still works now.

I use an iphone now. I've had it for a year and it works.

Based on my experiences the Apple Ipods have been reliable as they have worked for several years and still work now.

Another vote for Creative. Have my Zen Vision:M about 4/5 years now, still going strong! Also purchased an X-Fi a few months ago, no problems yet. Easy to use, easy to transfer music to (and off) and they look great. Decent prices too.

Not to be an ipod-basher, but the thing I hate most about them is their slavish reliance on itunes. Zens are not tied to any player/system (most other players aren't. actually), and although you CAN use the likes of Media Monkey and JRiver's Media Centre 14/Jukebox 12 with ipods, you're generally expected to use itunes. In fact, JRMC14 can't even ACCESS the 5th gen ipods, and Apple did that on purpose.

Anyway, for me it would be Creative, or the Sansa clip if you want something really tiny, that looks great, is dirt cheap and will take all sorts of rough treatment and just come back for more!

I have a Zen and I like different kinds of music. It doesn't let u make playlists though! Even if you select a song and select add to playlist it doesn't work. So your nodding of to enya then cascada comes on and scares the beejesus out you.

Pile of crap, why they thought that would be a good idea I'll never know!

Sorrry but that's total bull. The Zen does playlists fine. Have you checked you're doing it right? On the ZVM and the XFI you have to navigate to the "now playing" section, and save after adding. Once you name the playlist it's there. If it's not then you're doing something wrong.

Let me know if you need help....

I emailed creative before I bought my xfi, they gave me links for creating playlists on my laptop then transferring them to the player, and yes as Trollheart says you can have as many playlists as you want.

I agree with this, most smart phones can do this rather well and have stacks of memory now.

I've had my Creative Zen X-Fi for like 2 years now. It has been excellent, and does playlists perfectly.

AFAIK it's the same on all the Zens. First go to your "Now playing" list and make sure it's empty (remove all tracks/are you sure/yes). Select the songs, albums, or even artiste(s) you want to put in the playlist by clicking on them and slecting "Add to selected" (use the little button that looks like an E, top right of the X-Fi, assume it;s the same for the X-Fi2).

When you have all your tracks/albums added, go back to Now Playing, you should see the last track you selected and be able to tell basically by the number of tracks (1/45, 3/190 etc) that you have added all the right ones. Then select Save as Playlist (the small E symbol button again), it will give you the alphanumeric keypad. Type in the name of the playlist you want to save it as, and you're done.

If you need any more info/help, just shout.

That's exactly how I do it.

Thanks.

To save fiddling about, is there anyway I can create the playlists on my laptop?

With an ipod its as easy as going into i-tunes, and creating a new playlist, then putting that playlist in the pod.

Ditto - I have an aversion buying anything which starts with a small 'i'.

Download Creative central from the creative site, open help then type in playlist, you'll get a page of help. If that doesn't work, email creative support and ask how to, they should send you a page reference from the web. But you do need creative central first.

I receive a cd with my player, when I change laptops and installed the player it automatically went to creative and downloaded central, will have a look and let you know, failing that as I've said email customer support (technical) and they should post you links.

Had a quick look and google with no luck, I suggest you email support with model etc and see if they can help, I know they answered me very quickly.

Centrale is universally hated by Creative users! You're better off with something like Jriver MC14 or Media Monkey...
