Following a heated discussion in the Leona Lewis thread upon hearing she is having a third tattoo done.

Some, like myself don't like to see tattoos on women, probably for the same reason I don't like to see women with thongs riding halfway up their back, its not classy.

Your thought ?

I don't mind depending on the size and location.

A friend of mine had a small one of two intertwined roses on her left wrist, that looked good. She then got a small matching on on the left of her V groove (you know where i'm on about).

However, she then ruined it with one on the top of her arm and it changed her look to butch.

It's chavvy, cheap, common and tarty and tattoos on men are just as bad.

And don't get me started on piercings

They seem to be fashionable at the moment for those in their teens and twenties, but I think a lot of blokes are going to regret getting those massive "tribal" tattoos when they are older and, although a "tramp-stamp" looks fine on a fit, young, tanned female, it will look ridiculous and tacky when she gets a bit older and they go out of fashion.

Personally, I couldn't give two shits what someone else chooses to do, or not do, with their body. Why some people care so much I do not know.

I personally can't stand them. They're so council (to coin a phrase I heard on here a while ago)

Tattoos are a form of self expression. The idead that they are used to show membership of a gang or to signify agression is a very narrow minded and absolutely incorrect view. You only need to glance at psychological literature to know that body modfication is rarely attributed to a lack of confidence or a symbol or agression. Majority of the time tattoos are well planned and well thought out. Those that have tattoos have been found not to differ in confidence, appearance investment and experiences of trauma. Tattoos are an expression of art that can be adorned upon the body for all manner of expressive personal reasons.

Strange as I dont live on a council estate and i'm not a member of any gang or crew ( I'm in my late thirties lol) and have a wonderful job onbord a cruise ship and yet I have 2 Tattoos that I love, a small one at the top of my back and a larger one at the base of my back and I'm thinking of having another one on my ankle. They dont look tacky or make me look rough.
True being covered in tattoos is a different thing but it's up to the individual and if that is what they like good for them. I would never judge someone on the basis they have tattoos.

Depends. I don't personally have any but I much prefer to see people who are clearly passionate about tattoos and tattooing and have a lot of them (think Kat Von D) than some chav with a 'tramp stamp'.

It's not a look I would go for but the fully tattooed look isn't as cheap looking - just different.

People who have little tattoos here and there - tribal armband etc just look rough IMO. Not so bad on men but definitely women.

There is some amount of crap posted on here at times.

On women it makes them look cheap and tarty, on men it just makes them look dumb.

Similarly I don't like custom cars, but I can really appreciate a classic car that has been kept or restored to pristine condition.

I'd like to see a demographic distribution curve on the types of individuals that have them.

I think some tattoos are cute and make a positive statement.
I love the little star I have on my inner wrist. It is my one and only tattoo I got done when I was 22.
I am 25 now and would consider getting another creative creation inked onto my skin but not sure what to go for yet.

As long as everyone knows they are forever! (unless you go down the laser route as means to remove them of corse).

Some look very classy, sexy and thoughtful.

About 75% though are arse IMO.

Unoriginal, designs and locations that the owner will seriously regret and suggest insecurity.

The problem with tattoos is they all eventually become a horrible blue smudge and even laser removal leaves a scar. At the end of the day it's your body but don't have a tattoo on a whim.

I have a degree and a post grad. I earn very good money budget managing for my local authority. I wear a suit, shirt and tie every day.

I have 6 tattoos and am currently 7 hours into a full sleeve with the next 7 hours being done next wednesday.

How does that fit with your demographic? No one has ever seen my tattoos and said "you look dumb" as i managed their £30m budget.

In fairness though, most wearers of 'sleeves' that i've met don't have PhDs or responsibility for £30m budgets, so it could be said that you're the exception rather than the rule.

Plus the fact that this genius in charge of £30m budgets would still look dumb even if he wasn't. We're talking about appearance here after all.

I don't really like permanent ones but I don't mind temporary ones that you can remove after a while.

I'm kind of in the middle. I love tattoos on other people, but only when they're nice tattoos and when they suit the person. I just find tattoos really fascinating. But I loathe rubbish tattoos. And personally I would never get one myself, and if I had a boyfriend I wouldn't want him to get one - purely because I find someones natural skin more attractive.

I think the worst thing is when really attractive people get bad tattoos, and it just ruins their overall look a bit

Probably not to everyone's taste but I love this girl's tattoo. She's got a fashion blog and always wears really amazing 50s-style outfits, and I think the tattoos just complement her overall look:

Yeah but if you saw me out in a t-shirt you would be happy to judge (not that i care).

Maybe i am the exception but you may pass people in suits every day and have no idea if they are tatted up or not. You will (sometimes wrongly) assume not.

I love my tattoos and in my job i actually love the shock factor a little bit which is probably my bad.

I have no problem with people not liking them or even judging me based on them. However saying they are "cheap", "council" or "scummy" is so far removed from the truth its embarrassing. If im "council" thats fine but its not only wrong it also means that my arm is worth more than most "council" (WTF does that even mean??) people would spend on a car.
